If you believe in the historical person of Jesus Christ, then you, as a sane person, should understand that no one knows the true face of the Messiah. For two thousand years, as soon as he was not depicted, this is perhaps the most popular figure in the art of the West. And yet, the Bible does not even have a description of Christ (which is strange, isn't it). With what or with whom did the artists draw Jesus in this case?

However, later, an imprint was taken for the true image of the Messiah, which supposedly remained on the Turin shroud. It is believed that the Messiah was wrapped in this shroud after taking him down from the cross, and therefore a negative image of this man was preserved on it, which allowed scientists to recreate the "composite" of the most revered holy face in the world.

However, quite recently, the Gospel of Barnabas (the first disciple of Christ) was found in Turkey, which states that the Apostle Paul (and all the known four Gospels and other Christian books were written by him) was not an apostle, but an impostor, and that Jesus was not crucified on the cross. It turns out that thanks to the Turin Shroud, scientists recreated the image of Judas Iscariot (Barnabas claims that he was the one on the cross)?

Israeli and British scientists at one time recreated the image of Jesus on the basis of written testimonies about him by his contemporaries (very modest, it should be noted) and the capabilities of modern forensic anthropology. Their portrait of Christ turned out to be completely different, more oriental or something (see the photo above), although the medical artist Richard Neave from the University of Manchester, who worked in this group of scientists, is sure that the Messiah was just that, and not that European handsome man with falling on his shoulders hair, which all sorts of artists painted him all the time.

But the English biblical historian Ralph Ellis, who devoted her whole life to this topic, came to the conclusion that there is a real portrait of Jesus, made during his lifetime (in July 2017, Ellis's book "Jesus, King of Edessa" was published in Foggy Albion). This is an image of the ruler of Edessa (southeastern part of modern Turkey) - King Manu on the coin minted at that time (bronze money issued in the first century).

According to the scientist, Christ and Manu are one and the same person who was posthumously called both “King Jesus Emmanuel” and “King Izas Manu”. Of course, the researcher stipulates that such a bold conclusion contradicts the generally accepted doctrine of the Son of God Jesus Christ. But after all, in the Gospel of Barnabas there is a statement that this man was only a Prophet, but in no way a god and not a son of the Most High. Moreover, there is a lot of evidence for this, continues Ralph Ellis, and outside the Gospel and other biblical Talmuds, which were written for the most part not for the sake of historical truth, but on the order of the local rulers. Or it would be more accurate to say that the Church in the first centuries of our era tried to weed out just the most reliable information about Jesus Christ, including about his true appearance. So it was necessary. Who? But this is already completely different and, moreover,a very big and difficult question …
