Everyone knows that on April 29, 1986, a terrible tragedy occurred on the territory of Ukraine, near the town of Chernobyl. During the testing of the nuclear reactor at the fourth power unit, a powerful explosion occurred, which led to a terrible environmental disaster.

Soon after the explosion, the radiation from the reactor reached such a power as if 500 atomic bombs had exploded there, it was dangerous to be not only near the nuclear power plant, it was dangerous to be in Chernobyl itself, which was located several kilometers from the epicenter of the explosion. The explosion of the reactor changed the radiation background so much that it was necessary to immediately evacuate nearby settlements. Background changes were recorded hundreds of kilometers from the station and in other countries.

But let's imagine that there was no reactor explosion that day, and the tests went as planned. How would the course of history change?

4000 people do not die because of the explosion itself, and tens of thousands of people are not exposed to radiation, in our case the fate of people would not have suffered such a tragedy. The city does not become a ghost town, and its population increases. The number of inhabitants exceeds 100 thousand people, the city is developing, more and more scientists come to it, it does not become a ghost town, life in it boils. The power plant will continue to generate 29 billion kilowatt-hours of energy, which could supply 40,000,000 people for a whole year. Due to the fact that there was no explosion, the soil will remain suitable for agriculture, this area is 5,000,000 hectares, trees with an area of 200 km2 will not be destroyed. If the "Red Forest" does not appear, there will be no colossal ecological catastrophe.

Why do I mean all that I said earlier, the total damage from the accident is about $ 500 million, and hundreds of thousands of victims. But thanks to this disaster, millions of lives were saved around the world, because after the accident, the construction of similar ones was completed and the safety standards were revised so as not to repeat such mistakes. After all, we are human beings who can learn from our mistakes, and not repeat them in the future.
