The burials of women warriors are found in the steppe mounds on the territory of Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and many other Eurasian countries.

Beautiful, proud warriors - Amazons for centuries were considered an invention of the ancient Greeks. After all, there are no pesiegolovtsy, blemies, skypods and other beasts whom the fantasy of the Hellenes "settled" on the edge of the Oycumene - the inhabited world known to them. True, unlike the aforementioned monsters (people with dog heads, people without a head and a face on their stomachs, one-legged people sleeping in the shadow of their own huge feet), the Amazons did not live so far from the blessed Hellas - they too often crossed paths with the Greeks - they mostly fought, but sometimes they concluded allied treaties.

According to Herodotus, they lived in the territory of modern Turkey, and then, by chance, settled in the Azov region. It happened like this. After losing the battle at the river Fermodonte, the Amazons were taken prisoner by the Greeks and sent to Greece in three ships. Along the way, the captives staged a riot, destroyed the men and captured ships, but, not knowing how to control them, they sailed for a long time "at the behest of the waves" until they landed on the shore of Lake Meotius (Sea of Azov) where, at that time, the Scythians lived. First of all, they captured a herd of horses and "and on horseback began to plunder the land of the Scythians." After a series of skirmishes, the Scythians finally figured out that they were fighting women. Then they decided to end the war and sent a detachment of young men to the Amazon camp, who were instructed to stay close to the women's camp to avoid battles. Gradually, a relationship began, and there the children went. This is how a new tribe appeared - the Savromats, which settled "to the east, at a distance of three days' journey from Tanais (Don) and at a distance of three days from Lake Meotida in the direction of the north wind."

This is the story told by a respected ancient Greek, which, however, no one took seriously. And this continued until the twentieth century - when archeology became a serious science. It was then that very interesting discoveries began, which overnight forced to treat the words of the father of history Herodotus with great respect.

Yes, in the steppe mounds on the territory of Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and many other Eurasian countries, burials of women warriors have begun to be found. And the number of such finds is growing. The burials of the Amazons were also found here, on the Don. One of the first finds was made in 1967 on the territory of the Elizavetinsky settlement, which is located in the Azov district of the Rostov region.

In one of the mounds, a female burial was found, dating back to the fifth century BC. Among the funerary items were found "an iron sword, a spearhead, a fragment of an iron knife, bronze arrowheads, bronze bracelets, glass and gold beads." This find caused a great resonance.

Since the existence of women warriors is no longer in doubt, historians have come to a compromise solution - it is believed that the Amazon tribe is nothing more than a beautiful legend, and it was born because women of nomadic peoples fought on an equal footing with men and could occupy a high position in society.
