In the center of the Franz Josef Land archipelago in the Arkhangelsk region of Russia is the beautiful Champ Island. It attracts tourists who follow to the Arctic shores not with its delicious spring water and non-Arctic landscapes. People want to see the amazing round stones scattered all over the island. Scientists have not been able to solve the riddle of these stones until now. But there are already many versions.
In general, the entire Franz Josef Land archipelago consists of 192 islands. So the first mystery of round stones is connected with this: why do they lie on only two islands of the archipelago. Moreover, they are mainly concentrated on Champ Island. And only a few - on another island on the other side of the archipelago.
Anyone can now look at these stone balls. To do this, you need to go on a cruise in the Arctic. Starting from 2001, in the period from late June to early August, tourists are brought to the island as part of excursion groups on real icebreakers. And people examine, photograph, examine the stones and, of course, put forward all new versions about the origin of these balls.
Another mysterious fact is that the stones of Champ Island have the same perfectly round shape, but at the same time completely different sizes. The smallest of them are the size of a tennis ball, the largest are more than three meters in diameter.
The core of organic stones, around which a layer of densely compacted sand has formed. Some scientists call stones spherulites, others believe that this name is not suitable for these stone spheres.
And, of course, a large number of versions were put forward about the origin of the stones. Although none of them has been proven and officially accepted. Therefore, everyone can find new interpretations and explanations: who created the balls and why.

According to one of the versions, this is just the result of the constant grinding of ordinary boulders with water to completely round shapes. But it is somehow hard to believe that three-meter spheres could have become like this only due to washing with water.
Due to the fact that similar stones were found in other parts of the world, some researchers put forward hypotheses about their man-made origin. So the stones are associated with an ancient civilization that supposedly once existed in this region and had a high level of development. After the disappearance of this highly developed civilization, stones remained, like the remains of some kind of architectural structures or building materials.
There are also interesting suggestions that those very ancient architects and builders knew how to turn stone into liquid. With the possession and use of the laws of antigravity, they could transform solid stones into liquid balls in zero gravity. Thus, the stones scattered across Champ Island are nothing more than the building material of the ancients. Or rather, what was not needed in their construction sites.
Another version allows the formation of round stones by ejection of lava by ancient volcanoes. While this lava reached the ground, it turned into spherical stones. Another version says that the stones could have grown from some formations of carbonate composition, for example, fragments of shells. The highly mineralized water that fills the space between the pores of the sand stones could, over time, begin to deposit the salts dissolved in it. This contributed to the formation of spherical stones.
There are also versions about the alien origin of stone balls and about anagrams allegedly left by aliens on the surface of boulders, which have yet to be solved. Be that as it may, but so far there are more questions than answers. Although it is quite possible that the answer has already been found. He's just waiting for his proof and scientific justification.
