In the Volyn region of Ukraine, eight-year-old Anna Sakidon died, suffering from progeria - a rare genetic disease in which the body ages prematurely. This is reported by "Volyn24" with reference to its readers. The girl's death was confirmed at the Volyn Regional Children's Hospital, specifying that she died on February 9 from multiple organ failure.

The deputy head of the anesthesiology department of the hospital, Nadezhda Kataman, said that Sakidon had been observed in the institution since early childhood. “Since children diagnosed with Progeria have a year of life as 8-10 years, the correct age for the girl was 70-80 years. The child had premature aging of internal organs and systems, although Anya weighed eight kilograms,”the doctor said. She explained that in patients with this diagnosis, the skeleton does not grow, but the internal organs and the brain are enlarged. “Patients with proregia often die from strokes. Anna had several strokes, she also suffered from limb tetraparesis,”Kataman added.

Sakidon was born in the village of Kachin, Volyn region. Childhood progeria, or Hutchinson-Guildford syndrome, was diagnosed in May 2018 when she was six years old. Then the girl weighed five kilograms, and her height was 56 centimeters. Volyn24 notes that Sakidon was the only person in Ukraine with such a disease. There are about 350 cases of progeria recorded in the world. This disease was first described in 1886.
