The picturesque edges of the Samara Luka, framed by the ridges of the Zhiguli ridge, have long attracted tourists - the pristine nature of the Volga region has been preserved here, and the villages scattered around, as if they have not changed at all since the time of Stenka Razin - all the same carved platbands, skates on the roofs and cozy heaps, where so it's nice to get together in the evenings with friends … But fairy tales often turn out to be scary.
Underground inhabitants
Information about the first inhabitants of Samarskaya Luka is lost in the mists of time: even for the German ethnographer Pyotr Pallas, who visited the Volga inhabitants in 1768, the local villages seemed ancient. And if you believe the locals, then these places have been inhabited since the creation of the world and at first it was not people who lived here. The Mari call the owners of the Volga land alvami, the Chuvash call it uybede-tyale (people - owls), and the Russian peasants call it “white-eyed chudyu”. According to the legends, this tribe knew witchcraft and jealously guarded its secrets. None of the "owls" hesitated, casting a fatal curse after a traveler who accidentally fell into their possession. According to old-timers, an adult man barely reached the waist of an average person, but huge eyes in half of his face, glowing in the dark, inspired people with panic horror, which suggested hypnotic abilities. The body was covered with either scales or feathers that replaced clothes, fingers ended in sharp claws, and instead of a nose there was a spiral bump, as in some Tibetan and Indian engravings depicting asuras. The "owls" lived for themselves and did not grieve, and then they began to go underground. Since then, visions of the disappeared cities of antiquity often appear on Samarskaya Luka. The most famous is the legendary city of Mirny, which ethnographers called "Volga Kitezh": on moonlit nights or early in the morning, the foggy outlines of fortresses and turrets decorated with unknown white banners appear over the Molodetsky or Usinsky barrow. In particular, the Holstein traveler Adam Olearius, who visited the Volga region in the 17th century, mentions the Peaceful City. And in 1990, the phenomenon was observed by a whole group of local historians: “The city has risen from the fog. It glowed with different colorslike a rainbow … It seemed to us that we hear a certain funeral song rushing over the waves and over this magical city. And near the cascade of karst lakes between the villages of Mordovo and Brusyany, the stately White Church or the Temple of the Green Moon may appear with an elegant twisted tower illuminated by the radiance of all the colors of the rainbow. Locals claim that by the location of the mirages, one can calculate the entrance to the crystal palaces of the Mistress of the Zhiguli Mountains, however, they do not advise tempting fate: the underground ruler does not allow travelers to return to people.
Sometimes the small folk get bored of the dungeons, and they get out, turning into red-hot red balls that whistle over the fields. Most often they are observed in the Gremyachee tract in the Syzran region. Sometimes, like in a fairy tale about Finist the falcon, such a ball can hit the ground or against the trunk of a strong tree, and a "good fellow" comes out of it, who is not averse to courting a villager who has attracted his attention. Sometimes from such connections children with supernatural abilities are born. So, the Chuvash legends tell about the hero Ivan Gorny, born of an "owl" and a local peasant woman: the immortal hero not only possessed superhuman strength, but also knew how to bring havoc on the enemy's armies, subjugate the elements and even walk on the Volga like dry land. And when Stenka Razin appeared in the Volga forests, the Mari unambiguously recognized him as the child of the Elves. But you can't envy the mothers of the heroes - the girls seduced by the aliens languished with melancholy, emanated tears and, as a rule, did not heal in the world.

It is no coincidence that thunderstorms occur in the Zhiguli area much more often than in neighboring regions, and thunder can really strike right out of the blue. “The day was clear, but in a matter of seconds a thunderstorm broke out over the Zhiguli, - say the members of the Star Bridge expedition. A neat square hole appeared in the pile of clouds. A red ray ran along its perimeter, which fanned out, flashed and went out. Immediately after this, a vision appeared in the heavenly "window" - the coast of the sea bay, bounded by a ridge of low hills overgrown with forest. It was a bright sunny dayand small white clouds crawled lazily across his sky. Suddenly, over the "otherworldly hills" appeared a lot of black dots. They seemed to have moved from the depths of the image towards the observer. Immediately after this, the clouds surrounding the "window" began to move, began to converge and closed the gap."
Are there too many coincidences for such a limited area? “None of the venerable geologists have ever met such a structure of the earth's strata. One can, of course, talk about the natural origin of this unique geological object, but with equal probability one can talk about the role of the unknown mind in its origin,”says Sergei Markelov. Indeed, the mysterious underground inhabitants from folk tales may well be representatives of some highly developed alien civilization or a hybrid race that maintains contact with their creators. According to some ufologists, the unpredictable behavior of Zhiguli plasmoids is very similar to the maneuvers of UFOs that turned to plasma camouflage. No wonder many villagers saw how a fireball, gaining height, suddenly opened up,turning into a classic "flying saucer" or "flying cigar".
Thus, the Samarskaya Luka can serve as the site of the so-called "worm transition", compressing space ordered by interstellar travelers, and it is possible that a unique geomachine that creates space-time anomalies was designed by the aliens themselves for their needs. “Why did the Volga in the middle reaches need to bend around the small Zhigulevskaya chain? - says the researcher of anomalous phenomena Igor Pavlovich. - According to the laws of physics, the river waters should have shortened their path and headed east of the Zhiguli, into the channel of the Usa River.
What if in the depths of the Zhiguli Mountains a certain technical device, launched by a certain supercivilization, functions? It is it that generates around itself a force field that prevents the flow of water flows through the mountain range.
