Geopathogenic zones, or, as experts say, geopathogenesis associated with geological heterogeneities, do exist. It is caused by quite real things, the impact of natural and man-made physical fields on living organisms, including humans.

Since 1995, on the instructions of the Moscow government, the Institute of Geoecology has been dealing with the problem of the influence of the geopathogenicity of geological anomalies on the capital. These works are supervised by Vladimir, Doctor of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences. Our correspondent turned to him with a question: are there geopathogenic zones or is it just an invention of bored ordinary people and journalists "pumping up" the circulation of their publications?

Newspapers provide their pages mainly to psychics, yogis, magicians trying to explain the phenomena of geopathogenesis with the help of occult sciences, too loosely interpreted texts of Eastern philosophy …

I am deeply convinced that the pathogenic effect of certain parts of the earth's crust on a person can be established and explained without resorting to mysticism.

From the standpoint of science, geopathogenic zones should be considered as areas of anomalous manifestation of the physical properties of the atmosphere, hydrosphere and lithosphere, deeper spheres of the planet. Their impact on a person is carried out through completely material electromagnetic, electrostatic, magnetic and gravitational fields, which can be recorded and studied using modern equipment.

Anomalous manifestations in the atmosphere, hydrosphere and lithosphere, as a rule, are caused by structural and material inhomogeneities of the geological environment. These can be intrusions, that is, the introduction of molten magma into the earth's crust, tectonic blocks, faults, and fracture zones. The latter, as a rule, are absent on traditional geological maps, although it is precisely fractured zones that can often have a pathogenic effect. Therefore, on the instructions of the Moscow government, we compiled a structural and geomorphological map of Moscow in a scale of 1: 50,000 (500 meters in one centimeter). It depicts blocks, various tectonic faults, which can be considered as geological heterogeneities causing a geopathogenic effect.

As you know, our capital and the Moscow region are located on the East European platform, where only gentle folded structures were traditionally distinguished in the platform cover. Studies of recent years have shown that at the present tectonic stage on the platform there has been an activation of tectonic movements along the faults embedded in the platform foundation. They determined the block character of the modern relief, when the boundaries of hills, lowlands, individual hypsometric (high-altitude) steps coincide with zones of fractures, deconsolidation and various deformations in the platform cover, which exhibit tectonic activity at the present stage.

Many negative phenomena from the point of view of the national economy are associated with the mobility of such zones: the activation of engineering and geological processes, such as surface subsidence, the formation of karst-diffusion gaps, landslides, pollution of surface and ground waters, etc. They are also associated with fluctuations in the intensity of geophysical fields, and primarily electromagnetic, which negatively affect not only human health, but also the state of communications: water supply, heating and cable networks and underground engineering structures.

Let's take a look at people's health first. As far as I understand, we already live in an environment of fairly intense physical fields. Why, then, some do not harm our health, while others - on the contrary?

Recently it was found that even very weak physical fields can affect living organisms. There is practically no lower limit of the intensity of their impact on humans. But here we must take into account the amazing ability of living organisms, including humans, to adapt to unfavorable circumstances. If the field is relatively large, but constant, then the human body will eventually adapt to it.

Fields in tectonically active zones manifest themselves differently. There is a fluctuation in the intensity of physical fields, and it is this that can have a pathogenic effect on organisms.

By the way, the movement of a person around the city, when he crosses areas of different sizes of geophysical fields, can, in my opinion, also negatively affect his health.

Vladimir Ivanovich, the map of Moscow and the Moscow region prepared by you and your colleagues is all dotted with active tectonic zones. It turns out that the people living in them are doomed to illness?

I am not saying this at all. First, while we are talking about a scientific hypothesis. To objectively prove the danger of the influence of zones, it is necessary to conduct very expensive research.

Secondly, it should be borne in mind that geopathogenic zones have always existed since the appearance of man and over millions of years people could adapt to their impact. Therefore, in our opinion, zones affect very selectively not all people, but only those whose body is weakened. It is another matter that due to the deterioration of the ecological situation, the number of such weakened people has noticeably increased in recent years.

More realistic and unambiguous, in my opinion, is the impact of geopathogenic zones on the municipal structures of cities, water pipelines, heat and cable networks. Numerous accidents occurring in these networks may well be explained within the framework of our research, our hypothesis. In places of modern tectonic oscillatory movements, metal fatigue arises, the rate of movement of groundwater increases, the intensity of geotechnical processes increases, and wandering currents associated with oscillations of the electromagnetic field appear. Each of these factors can lead, for example, to damage to a cable or pipeline. Geopathogenic zones are becoming places of increased accident rate.

What should network operators do to reduce accidents?

If organizations operating networks in the capital, in large cities near Moscow, gave us orders for drawing up detailed maps of geopathogenic zones and, most importantly, for geophysical verification, this would benefit them too (money on repairing networks would be spent more purposefully), and population (the number of accidents would be reduced), and our work in science would become more substantiated and have a greater applied character.
