Bloodthirsty monsters get ashore from the depths of the water and hunt people. Is it fantasy or dark reality?

There is a small lake in Yakutia, about which terrible legends go. Residents of the nearby village of Tompor claim that mysterious and very aggressive "devils" live in the depths of this reservoir. Stories are passed from mouth to mouth, how one day an unknown creature got to the shore and chased a Yakut fisherman until he died of fear. Another time, the "devil" stuck his head out of the water and in front of the villagers' eyes swallowed a swimming dog in one fell swoop …

Descriptions of the monster from different eyewitnesses coincide. They paint him as something "huge, dark gray, with such a large head that the distance between his eyes is no less than the traditional local 10-log rafts." Data on these monstrous sizes can be considered partially confirmed: the local collective farmer Pyotr Vinokurov on the northern coast picked up the jaw of an animal with teeth. The bone was so huge that "if you put it upright, then a rider would freely pass under it."

Unlike other similar lakes, inhabited by large monsters, Labynkyr is covered with ice for most of the year. Observations confirm that in winter several large wormwoods (called "devil's windows") appear on the surface, and next to them there are traces of some large animals.

For the first time, the conversation about "northern monsters" was raised by the newspaper "Youth of Yakutia" on December 14, 1958. Two years later, in 1961, the diaries of the head of the geological party of the East Siberian branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences Viktor Ivanovich Tverdokhlebov were published, where the existence of a large unknown animal in Yakutia was also confirmed. Among the critics of this message, one can mention A. Tolstov, a researcher at the Institute of Permafrost Studies, who suggested that in fact, eyewitnesses observed a catfish about 5 m in size, weighing up to 300 kg. This version turned out to be unviable - it turned out that there are no soms at all in Labynkyr. However, there is no real evidence of the existence of a mysterious animal in the lake either.

Meanwhile, reports of encounters with lake monsters continue to come from all over the world. The past year was particularly rich in such sensations. Here are just a few of them.

Residents of the village of Campo in Puerto Rico swore and swore to reporters that they had a flying dragon. According to the priest and the policeman, who saw the terrible creature with their own eyes, she looks like a green kangaroo, her back is covered with a hard shell, her eyes are red and glow in the dark. The monster, named Chupacabras, appears at night, bites off the heads of dogs, pounces on sheep and cows, tears their throats and drinks blood …

In China, the monster from Lake Hanas revived again. He has not been remembered since 1985, when students at Xinjiang University reported seeing an unknown large animal on the surface of the lake. And here again there were rumors about the disappearance of birds and domestic animals, which the bloodthirsty monster allegedly drags under the water in order to "kill the worm." And recently, a mysterious something surfaced in front of a dozen witnesses at once …

In Lake Storsh (Sweden), the legendary monster has also revived, or rather, rumors about it. For the first time, rumors about the Storsh lizard spread at the beginning of this century, when the newspapers reported that an animal unknown to science began to get out of the lake onto the shore and chase people. After it scared the two girls, the locals prepared a large trap on the shore. The monster has safely avoided her all these years. But recently strange footprints were again seen on the shore …

But again the Scottish Nesen "surpassed" everyone. If in messages from other countries only vague reasoning and obscure eyewitness accounts appeared, then the previously elusive Loch Ness lizard this time not only allowed itself to be photographed from all sorts of angles, but also swam online for further research. However, let us quote the magazine "News", which told the world about this event: “The expedition, organized by the doctor of zoology from France Michael Jennett and supported by scientists from Italy, Belgium, Germany, Sweden, Norway, the USA and Ukraine, ended successfully. A 52-meter steel net filled with tuna as bait was lowered into Loch Hess. For several weeks no one touched the net, but then something burst through it like rotten cloth. The repaired and thickened tackle was again lowered into the water. And this time she held out …"

“It’s too early to try to name or classify this monster,” Dr. Jennette confided to the reporter. - But I think that we probably caught the last dinosaur on Earth …

Photos of "live Nessie" were intended to confirm the truth of this sensational event. But knowing the capabilities of modern computer technologies to create the most incredible pictures, it is difficult to believe in the reality of what happened on the basis of only photographic documents. And, alas, we could not find any other confirmation of the sensation. Although we contacted major cryptozoologists in Russia and Ukraine, they did not know anything about Dr. Jennett's expedition and its results, spoke about this sparingly and cautiously, they say, wait and see …

Are these hopes justified? In general, without twisting against the truth, today we can say that the animal world of the underwater kingdom (especially the seas and oceans) has been studied very approximately. Every now and then there are finds that suggest that the legends of giant snakes, octopuses and other monsters may have every reason. Judge for yourself: Almost 30 centimeters in diameter reached the eyes of an archithois octopus found dead on the coast of one of the islands in New Zealand. Its tentacles reached 12 meters …

Fisherman Teddy Tucker in 1988 discovered on the coast of one of the Bermuda islands in the Magrow Bay area a giant multi-ton object of biological origin. Examining the remains, experts concluded that the creature was at least 75 meters long …

Director of the Oceanographic Institute in California, Bruce Robinson, while diving in a one-man submarine, took pictures of real monsters - deep-sea eels, whose length reached 40 meters.

According to the press, mysterious creatures also live in closed bodies of water. Here are just some of the "addresses":

Lake White (Chile) - according to legends, a huge prehistoric lizard still lives there.

Lake Waitorek (Australia) - local residents have repeatedly observed a giant creature in the depths.

Lake Manipogo (Canada) - numerous eyewitnesses have noticed a terrible monster there.

Lake Kok-Kol (Dzhambul region, Kazakhstan) - according to popular beliefs, “the water spirit of Idahare” lives there. Shepherds have seen more than once how a huge animal dragged birds and animals under the water. Kazakhstani ethnographer A. Pechersky claims that he once saw a strange creature at the moment of its emergence from the depths and described it as a giant snake more than 15 meters long.

Lake Manitoba (north-northwest of the city of Winnipeg (Canada) - according to legends and modern eyewitness reports, relic animals of medium and large sizes live there. In the 50s, local fisherman Oscar Frederickson fished a skeleton from the water and made a wooden a copy, which were identified as "an 8-foot creature that became extinct many millions of years ago" (the original skeleton, unfortunately, subsequently burned down in a fire along with the owner's house) In 1960, the head of the Department of Zoology at the University of Manitoba, Professor James McLeod, visiting lake, stated that "the giant reptiles that lived in the prehistoric inland seas may well have survived to this day."

Lake Ogopogo (Okanagan) is a deep reservoir in British Columbia (Canada) with a length of 145 km, where, according to numerous eyewitnesses, a prehistoric monster with a barrel-shaped dark body with fins, a long neck and a small head lives. Since 1958, reports that an animal of a disgusting species appeared in front of people and even pursued them appeared every few months, but since 1964, eyewitnesses have seen the "Ogopogo monster" almost every day. In the 60s and 70s, Okanagan received the unofficial status of “Canadian Loch Hess” and turned into a kind of Mecca for tourists. In recent years, the surrounding area has been declared a nature reserve, and any construction in this area is prohibited, "so as not to frighten a possible rare animal."

Flathead Lake is a large lake in the state of Montana (USA), in which a large number of eyewitnesses at different times observed "classic" lake monsters, reminiscent of prehistoric long-necked dinosaurs. A particularly large number of observations refer to the 60s, when a yellow creature with a "cow's head on a long graceful neck" was seen by many people.

And yet, so far there is not a single reliable evidence that this is something more than a fusion of legends, rumors and exaggerations (if not outright deception) of eyewitnesses. Alas, and the message about the capture of Nessie, which came on the crest of the "dinosaur boom", we still refer to the category of such fantasies.

What conclusions follow from this? Photographs, video filming, thanks to the ability of computers to convincingly create any image, so much so that no examination is undermined, cease to be documentary evidence. And since, according to statistics, we get more than 90 percent of information from newspapers, magazines and from the TV screen, this fact is of enormous importance. A problem arises - how much can we trust what we are shown? But on the other hand, what other evidence about the capture of the same Hessi should be provided in order to convince everyone of the authenticity of the event? Kill the poor fellow and carry the scarecrow through the cities and villages? Poor Hessie …
