In 1923, more than 600 people disappeared from the Brazilian town of Hoer Verde. This secret still remains unsolved.

On February 5, 1923, a group of guests arrived in a small town in central Brazil. Hoer Verde was a fairly isolated settlement, with all 600 inhabitants engaged in agriculture.

The guests were going to visit their relative, who got married a couple of months ago and moved to this city. They planned to spend a month in Hoer Verde and decide whether to open a store here.

But as soon as the travelers entered the city, they were struck by the dead silence and the view of absolutely deserted streets. Only the wind shook the shutters and signs on the houses.

People looked into the windows of all the buildings they met on the way. There was not a single soul anywhere. They understood that something terrible had happened to their loved ones and all the inhabitants of the town.

Finally, they found their relative's home. The doors and windows were wide open, but no one was in sight. There were cutlery on the kitchen table and rotten food on the plates. There was a chair on the floor. It seemed that the inhabitants were in a hurry to leave their homes, right during the meal.

The family fled in horror from the ghost town. They contacted the authorities of the neighboring municipality and they sent their representatives. Together with them, a group of volunteers and curious spectators entered Hoer Verde.

Inspection of the city gave them no answers or even clues. There were no traces of ambush, attack, or blood. Only one thing was clear - people were in such a hurry that they did not even have time to pack and carry their things. Money, valuables and even pets remained in their place. The doors in the houses were thrown open, as if no one was going to defend their property.

A pistol was found in the school building, from which, according to a ballistic examination, not so long ago they fired. However, there were no gunshot marks anywhere.

In addition, a strange phrase was written on the blackboard in chalk: "There is no salvation."

Quite an ominous message, especially considering that the local church was found partially destroyed. It was seriously damaged by fire, but the chapel building was almost intact. Inside the chapel were scattered and torn sacred images, and the altar was turned over. The members of the search group came to the conclusion that some kind of sacrilege had been committed here.

Upon learning of what had happened, the inhabitants of the surrounding villages began to avoid this place. In their opinion, a dark devilish force was involved in the mysterious disappearance of people.

The town gradually grew green until it was completely swallowed up by the jungle.

What happened to the inhabitants of the town?

It was rumored that residents were hastily evacuated from Hoer Verde for fear of encountering guerrillas or drug dealers. At that time, the situation in the country was indeed tense and this version sounded quite plausible. If not one but. Not a single resident of the town later "surfaced" in any locality in Brazil. None of them was found dead or alive. Where could more than 600 people disappear without a trace?

No one knows.
