Recently I read in one book, either ours, or foreign, they say, "Russians generally love abbreviations." Do Russians love? NATO, EU, USA - does this mean anything? We already, thank the Valar, are called like a normal country: "Russia". But what about the vague two- and three-letter misunderstandings that mistakenly consider themselves states? Well, yes, there were no "countries" as such. So, some formations. And the recent phrase of the US representative "FU @ K EU" generally looks comical in this context. In fact, the planetary conflict "USA FU @ K EU" consists of sets of incomprehensible abbreviations, of which the longest and most important word is obscene)))

But who really love acronyms and abbreviations are scientists. Maybe they just have no time to pronounce long words and therefore: General Relativity, NPP, RAS … The international scientific language is still English, and here, after all the prolegomains, we get to the topic of the article: SETI, CETI and METI.

Yeah, haven't everyone heard that? Except SETI, which every secondary educated person must know.

SETI

Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence. Well, everything is clear: among the millions, quadrillions and hrentillions of stars there should be inhabited worlds, so we are looking for them. By the way, they can still be in neighboring dimensions - but something with the search is not very active there. Maybe you can do this?

CETI

This is more complicated. This abbreviation hides a two-way communication with an extraterrestrial civilization. (Communication with Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence). A purely technical task, to receive signals and transmit them in response. But to transmit, you need to have WHAT to transmit and WHAT to transmit. And the third abbreviation is just responsible for this.

METI

Messaging to Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence. Namely: Messages to Extra-Terrestrial Civilizations.

Say: - Hey! We Earthlings are here! Get in touch with us!

(and immediately remember: "Saturn no longer pour!"))

By the way, both technicians and humanitarians are immediately involved here. A project that requires the participation of both specialties, because what is the extraterrestrial intelligence thinking there, and is there any “what” for it to think in our imagination - let the lyricists tell physicists their options.

Techies can confidently say right off the bat: METI is much easier than CETI. For emitting a signal, somehow encrypting it, is quite a trifling matter. Now you turn on the flashlight and blink some message with your code: the job is done. By the way, since the photon of light theoretically flies infinitely far, the signal from your flashlight will someday reach the stars. You can send your own METI signal any clear night.

And how much work do you need to search with binoculars in the darkness of the night, where there is someone blinking outside the window, and write it down, and then decipher it? It is always easier to convey than to accept and understand, therefore METI is not so much heard, although it is much more developed. And no less interesting to both physicists and lyricists. Having received the signals, they must be deciphered, and maybe translated into some intelligible language, which is already a humanitarian task. All sorts of ways of thinking aliens, etc.

METI signals

We do not take into account the attempts to communicate with the help of fires and radio signals that are not directly addressed to the unearthly mind. Specifically, several material messages have been sent to aliens over the past hundred years: golden plates of Voyager and Pioneer probes, and radio messages have been sent to more than 20 regions of stars. I will tell you about them here in the channel shortly.

But the very first message was sent by a country that no longer exists, but its message has been flying to the stars since 1962 and has already moved away from the solar system by (which is logical) 57 light years. By the way, purely by chance it was sent towards the nearby star GLIZE-581, which now has terrestrial planets. And there from the antenna of space communication ADU-1000 (again reduction) a short message was sent in Morse code: "LENIN WORLD USSR".

That's what you want about it, then think)) Gliese-581 it reached in 20 years, in 1982, we will throw another 20 years for the time of the response signal … In total, the civilization in GLIZE's orbit had at least 17 years to decipher it, build equipment and send us a response signal. Let's say "GLIZE'S WORLD GLIZMUNDR". But they didn't answer. So the planets are free?
