An archaeological team led by Professor Rustem Aslan, during excavations in the ancient city of Troy in northwestern Turkey, discovered a cultural layer that pushes the estimated date of the foundation of this city by about 600 years.

Archaeological excavations in the ancient city of Troy, located on the territory of the modern Turkish province of Canakkale, have been going on for about one and a half centuries. Scientists are scrupulously uncovering the settlement layer by layer. In total, nine have been found over the years. This proves that Troy during its existence was repeatedly destroyed by wars, fires and earthquakes, but its inhabitants have always restored it.
This year, Rustem Aslan's team from Canakkale University discovered traces of a previously unknown tenth settlement layer. This is an earlier period than what scientists call Troy-I.
The new layer was named Troy-0. He proves that the history of the city is much richer than previously thought. Until now, the oldest layer found at Troy dates back to about 2920 BC.
According to Aslan, the discovered layer was about 600 years older. In other words, Troy was founded around 3500 BC.

“The discovery shows that the settlement appeared here about 5,500 years ago,” says Professor Aslan. - We found traces of hearths, fragments of ceramics and the remains of wooden beams in the Troy-0 layer. This is very important for understanding the history of the founding of Troy."
The ruins of the legendary city are located in the Hisarlyk mound. They were first discovered by the famous explorer Heinrich Schliemann.
