Perhaps very soon mammoths may turn out to be a reality, and not extinct creatures that lived thousands of years ago. A research institute in Yakutia is starting a major project to clone these prehistoric giants.
The Russian government approved this project, which was created by an international group of scientists. Back in 2012, the institute began collaborating with South Korean scientists from the Biological Research Foundation. In 2014, the team expressed a desire to create a kind of glacial version of Jurassic Park, but then everyone took the idea with humor. And in vain, after all, in the next 10 years, real mammoths can begin to walk around Yakutia!
Acting Head of Yakutia Aizen Nikolaev said with confidence that this event will happen very soon. He spoke in Vladivostok at the Eastern Economic Forum. There he noted that now technologies are developing explosively.
Scientists from Russia, South Korea and Japan are working on cloning the mammoth. They plan to use DNA from a woolly mammoth found in permafrost. It is worth noting that the last representative of this species became extinct 10 thousand years ago. Also in Yakutsk, an experiment is being conducted to clone cave lions and extinct horse species.

In addition, the Pleistocene Park is already operating in Yakutia, which recreates the environment that existed during the life of mammoths. It is not known where they plan to place the mammoths, if the experiment succeeds - perhaps in this park.
