Stories about large animals unknown to science, described as resembling prehistoric dinosaurs, usually take place in Africa or South America. Less known are the stories of encounters with living dinosaurs that occurred in Indonesia and Papua New Guinea. For many years, not excluding our days, there have been reports of a strange creature that lives on the Indonesian island of Nusa Kambangan and which the locals call the word "Kavuk".
Dinosaur Kavuk
According to eyewitnesses, Kavuk looks like a crocodile, but moves on its hind legs. It looks almost like a Velociraptor. Some say that the kawuk is simply a large lizard like the Komodo dragon, or the giant Indonesian monitor lizard. But the Komodo dragon, like other large lizards, walks not on two, but on four legs!..
The "height" of the kavuk is approximately one and a half meters; it is also known to hunt at night. However, the word "hunting" in this case is not entirely appropriate, since the kavuk is primarily a scavenger. They say that he loves to tear up graves in cemeteries to feast on corpses. Kavuk is considered a very aggressive creature, meeting with him is life-threatening.
It is interesting that this monster was observed throughout almost the entire twentieth century; of modern cases, the story that happened in 2014 is quite indicative. A local fisherman named Heri went to the cemetery with some friends to visit a recently deceased acquaintance. Suddenly the men noticed that around the grave to which they were heading, some incomprehensible, large lizard-like creatures were spinning. Fearing that these creatures would dig up a dead body, people reburied their acquaintance away from the forest. When Hyeri told about this story, the skeptics, of course, said that the fisherman and his friends saw just big monitor lizards. Heri, however, insisted that he knew very well how lizards look, and the cemetery guests were definitely not them.
Is it possible that the kavuk is a theropod (predatory dinosaur) like a velociraptor that has survived to this day? Yes, quite, in Indonesia today there are many places where no man's foot has yet gone. True, according to modern data, most theropods (even Tyrannosaurus rex) had feathers, while none of the eyewitnesses saw them in the Kavuk.

Flying Dinosaur Orang Bati
Another of the alleged dinosaurs - a flying lizard - lives on the Indonesian island of Seram. Locals often talk about creatures similar to winged monkeys. It is rumored that during the day these creatures hide among volcanic dumps, and at night they can fly into the village and abduct human babies. They have leathery, featherless black wings and eyes that glow brightly in the night.
Even the accounts of Christian missionaries who sailed here from the 15th century bear testimonies of these monsters. One of the last to see the huge winged lizard was the English missionary Tyson Hughes, who lived among the aborigines. This meeting took place in 1987. Skeptics assumed that Hughes was observing some kind of large bats, like a flying fox. But these and other fruit bats for the local tribes are familiar animals, often serving people as food. Another thing is a black-winged monster with a monkey body, which brings fear to everyone and received a special name - Orang Bati. It is possible that this is indeed an ancient pterosaur, since the jungle of Seram Island is virtually unexplored, expeditions come here extremely rarely.
Dinosaurs of Papua New Guinea
This state is inhabited by wild and warlike tribes of people. For this reason, the local jungle is also almost unexplored. Meanwhile, in a province called Western New Britain, you can find a very unusual creature, according to descriptions, similar to a Therizinosaurus - a large bipedal dinosaur, whose front legs are crowned with huge claws. Locals call him Kiaimunu. There is an old photograph showing the native next to the sculpture of Kiaimunu, which is made of branches and most of all impresses with its huge mouth.
This creature was last seen in 2005. A certain man, named Robert, happened to see a giant animal in the jungle, reaching 12-15 meters in length, bipedal, with a long leathery neck and head, like a turtle. It was not predatory, and therefore Robert was not hurt in this unusual meeting. According to the man, the huge lizard peacefully ate the leaves of the coastal thickets, and then entered the river and swam away. When an eyewitness was given a book with pictures of dinosaurs, he pointed to the Therizinosaurus, which was more like the giant encountered in the jungle.
In the same year, the newlyweds Simon and Margaret Patolkit, resting on the shores of the small deserted island of Dililo, saw a reptile in the water, which was larger in size than that observed by Robert. It was no less than 20 meters long, had a long neck with a small head and looked like a typical dinosaur. The monster rose briefly from the water, and then disappeared again.
