Nodosaurus (Latin Nodosaurus - knotted lizard) is a genus of herbivorous dinosaurs that had a shell of bone plates, which, alternately with "nodules", formed a kind of armor on the back of the dinosaur. The plates had leather veins, which descended in longitudinal rows along the back to the sides of the animal. The spikes on the ends of the plates provided additional protection against enemies. Unlike the ankylosaurs, which appeared later, it did not have a "club" on the tail. He ate mainly soft plant foods. The name of the dinosaur was given by the American paleontologist Gophoniel Charles Marsh in 1889.
