Doctors of the Volgograd Center for the Prevention and Control of AIDS did not confirm the information about the complete recovery of a one-year-old girl who allegedly recovered from HIV through prayers. Oleg Kozyrev, the head physician of the medical facility, told Novosti Volgograd about this.
According to him, the child born to HIV-positive parents began receiving antiretroviral therapy immediately after being diagnosed with human immunodeficiency virus. After six months of taking the drugs, the infant went into remission, and a decrease in the level of replication (multiplication) of the virus to a concentration below the detection threshold was detected in the blood. During a follow-up test several months later, the negative result for HIV was repeated, but since the infected person cannot be cured of the virus, the girl was not completely cured.
“Against the background of the prescribed antiretroviral therapy, the child's condition was stabilized. The argument set out in the article of the Volgograd diocese about the cure of HIV infection has not been confirmed,”the head physician added.
