Poltergeists are mischievous spirits that usually visit homes for short periods. In nine cases out of ten, their leprosy is aimed at annoying or angering the owners of the house without causing them much harm.
Unfortunately, however, not all poltergeists come to have a little fun. Sometimes invisible guests can be really cruel.
In June 1946, a German family named Schrei settled in a small house in the village of Lauter, Bavaria. Having no children of their own, the Shreis adopted two girls, whose parents were killed in a bombing raid during World War II.
The girls grew up, settled down, everything went well until the family moved to Lauter. Here the parents began to notice that the older girl began to change in a completely inexplicable way.
Shy and shy before, Edith suddenly became uncontrollable and sometimes cruel. Her mood was constantly changing for no reason, and in the house in the most unexpected places heaps of human excrement appeared. The spouses began to blame their daughters for this, but their incredible volume ruled out the possibility that the girls were to blame.
Things got worse when the youngest girl, Irma, began to experience the same things as with the older one. At this time, small household items, broken into small pieces, were found in the house: pens, blades and even heavy iron binders. Food products, including tomatoes and other vegetables, began to jump out of the special boxes in which they were stored.
The typewriter suddenly sealed it itself, but the text was meaningless. The last miracle lasted quite a long time, even after the machine was closed in a drawer.
An ordinary confusion escalated into real danger when the girls were attacked by an invisible enemy who seemed to be wielding scissors. The girls' long braids fell to the floor in front of the amazed parents. Irma was hospitalized because of the wounds inflicted on her by a sharp object.

When the doctors found out about what was happening, they invited Professor Hans Bender, a parapsychologist, founder of the Institute for Borderline States at the University of Freiburg. Bender visited the Shreev house and talked to all family members. He left in full confidence that they had become victims of a poltergeist, and although he could not help the unfortunate family, he reassured them by assuring them that order in the house would be restored when the sisters reached the age of puberty.
Bender was right. When the girls reached adolescence, the incredible phenomena in their home stopped.
Professor Bender continued to study the poltergeist phenomenon for forty years. He identified two general classes of poltergeist manifestations: first, certain sounds - knocking, scratching, banging, sounds of breaking or falling objects; secondly, the movement of certain material objects.
When objects change position, everything happens so quickly that it is almost impossible to notice it. But in other cases, the opposite happens: objects move unnaturally slowly. Bender even encountered the movement of fragile objects such as glassware, crystal or china; the invisible prankster threw them with all his might against the wall, and at the same time they remained completely unharmed.
At the same time, a characteristic sign of the presence of a poltergeist has always been breakable dishes, which for no apparent reason broke right in front of the bewildered owners. All this suggests that the mind, guiding all this strange confusion, enjoys the mess it brings. But these aliens do not bring much harm.
True, Bender had to deal with another case when the poltergeist turned out to be as evil as the "guest" of the Shreev family.
In November 1980, doctors in Freiburg were alarmed by an incident involving a Spanish housewife named Clara, who lived in eastern France.
The unfortunate woman was severely beaten by an invisible perpetrator, and in addition, cruciform cuts appeared on her shoulders and hips. Klara, she said, often began to experience the feeling that someone from time to time beat her pretty hard in the stomach.
Doctors believed that the injuries were inflicted on Clara by herself in a fit of hysterical self-torture, but Professor Bender and his colleagues were convinced that the woman was telling the truth. In December, a group of scientists witnessed not only bruises spontaneously appearing on Clara's body, but also that during the filming of everything that was happening, their equipment periodically broke, and the film on which the film was filmed turned out to be strangely overexposed.
Thermometers showed 80 degrees Fahrenheit in rooms where the heating was turned off and the temperature outside the window did not exceed 20 degrees. In some cases, the monitor of a device of increased complexity, which records the temperature for 72 hours, reflected not only huge temperature fluctuations, but also broken lines that could not be copied.
There is a theory that explains the bursts of poltergeist activity by discharges of physical energy from the human brain. Professor Bender believes that some form of self-governing force has settled in Clara's house. Bender tried to establish contact with Clara's invisible "guest" using a special system of reflective mirrors. Soon, such contact was established, an unknown creature called itself Henry. Henry even appeared as a shadow on the wall.
But the ghostly guest could not be persuaded to leave the house. In April 1981, Klara and her husband left this house, nothing more unexplained happened to Klara. The house was left empty. Empty, except for uninvited guests.
