The village of Pluckley, located in the south-east of England, in Kent, is known as the "village of 12 ghosts". Some people believe that ghosts are present only in the imagination of local residents. But, one way or another, many strive here to breathe in a special, "ghostly" air … In any case, Plakly does not experience a lack of tourists.
What kind of ghosts live here? For example, the spirit of the Woman in White dwells in the central square of the village. They say that this is a representative of the local noble family of the Dennings. And her sister appears in the form of the spirit of the Woman in Red in the Church of Saint-Nicholas, where the family crypt of their family is located.
Apparently, the family had reason to fear that the young Lady Denning would rise from the grave. Therefore, the girl's body, as legend has it, is hidden inside seven lead coffins, nested one inside the other. And the topmost coffin was placed in a massive oak chest. But it did not help…
There is a house in Plakley called Pinnock Stream. Once there was a mill. So, before the storm there appears a ghost of a black man. This is not a Negro, he just has a black face and is dressed in black clothes … They say that this is the spirit of the local miller, who has turned black because of his lifetime sins and is now doomed to wander.
Another famous "ghost house" is the Rosecourt manor. They say that once its owner committed suicide, either by eating poisonous berries, or by drinking their juice. Since then, between four and five in the evening, her ghost appears in the window of the house: it was at this time that the woman's death occurred. And a ghostly monk lives in the Greystones estate. Where he came from there, no one knows, but they say that sometimes he is seen walking arm in arm with the spirit of the mistress of Rosecourt …
For some reason, Plakli is most often visited by the ghosts of the hanged. Two hundred years ago, a robber was hanged from an oak tree in the park. This was done by the then local sheriff and his assistants. The old oak tree has survived to this day, and, according to the assurances of the local population, every night near this tree you can watch the scene of the execution of the ghost … The spectacle, frankly speaking, is not for the faint of heart …
In a pasture located on the outskirts of the village, a man is encountered with a piece of rope around his neck. This is the ghost of a colonel who once hanged himself in a forest that stood on the site of a pasture, having been convicted of wasting government money.
Another ghostly gallows is found on one of the streets of Plakly. This is a former school teacher who hanged himself from a laurel tree because of unhappy love. On moonlit nights, he can be seen swinging in a noose among the branches of a tree. Can you imagine how frightened the village couples walking by the moon?

You can also meet ghosts outside the village. For example, on the road leading from Plakley to the neighboring hamlet of Multman's Hill, a ghostly carriage with four horses sometimes appears. Moreover, it looks like a completely material object, you can even touch it and climb inside (it is empty). But it is not recommended to do this: daredevils who dared to travel in a ghost carriage, as if they disappeared forever!
At the bridge over the stream in the dark there is a phantom of a gypsy woman smoking a pipe. They say that she was once burnt at this very place on charges of witchcraft. If late travelers are nearby, the gypsy turns to them with a proposal to tell fortunes in the palm of her hand. But so far, no one seems to agree …
Not far from the train station is a clay pit, where the so-called Screaming Ghost appears once a week in the evenings. This is a phantom of a worker who once fell asleep in his career. He screams so loudly that you can hear it even in the neighboring villages.
The year before last, Pluckly was suddenly exposed to an anomalous infestation of flies. And it happened on the eve of winter, when the temperature outside was slightly above zero! Insects flew through the streets in swarms, penetrated into car interiors, interfering with movement. The windows in the houses had to be closed tightly so that flies would not get inside …
Residents bought all the means from annoying insects in local shops. With regard to the "fly attack" even had to convene an emergency meeting of the parish council.
