Therefore, when on February 22, 1803, in the province of Hitachi, they found a vessel of a very strange shape near the coast, they, of course, were very surprised, but thought that it was just some kind of foreign boat.
Since the "foreign boat" showed no signs of life, the fishermen pulled it ashore and began to examine it with curiosity. The mysterious vessel was approximately ten meters long, five wide, and three and a half high. The shape of the vessel, very similar to the Japanese incense burner - kohako, was striking, which is why the Japanese gave it the name Utsuro-bune. And the material from which the boat was made was somewhat puzzling. For example, its top was made of something unusual, outwardly similar to rosewood, covered with dark varnish. The lower part of the vessel was lined with metal round plates, similar to copper, probably from pitfalls.
The fishermen were surprised by the little windows of the boat, of which there were several. They were made of mysterious crystals coated with either tree resin or colorless varnish, but they let light through perfectly. And looking inside, the men saw that the walls of the cabin were decorated with some kind of mysterious inscriptions (in an unfamiliar language).
Having penetrated into the vessel's cabin itself, the fishermen were literally taken aback, since they found a young girl in it. She was unusually beautiful, with red hair that was artificially lengthened by elegant white threads. The girl was dressed in something long, fitting her slender figure, moreover, sewn from a material that fishermen had never seen in their lives. The hostess Utsuro-bune smiled affably at those who entered and babbled something in a language they did not know. At the same time, she pressed a mysterious box to her chest, to which she did not allow anyone.
Without finding out anything from the owner of the ship, the fishermen simply returned it to the sea and went about their fishing - they had everything to do without this strange boat.
The meeting of the fishermen with Utsuro-bune soon became the property of many residents of the Hitachi province, the authorities and people of science became interested in it, but the attempts made to find the "foreign" ship yielded nothing. So this story remained only in the annals of the region, as a fleeting and strange mystery …
