So, recently, French scientists calculated that our sense of smell has already become much worse than that of our ancestors: 72% of the genes responsible for scent have already mutated as unnecessary. While these differences are not striking, but over time, some scientists say, it is quite possible that the nose will atrophy altogether, turning into a barely noticeable atavistic bump on the face.
Not everything will be all right with the teeth. Most likely, futurologists predict, they first grind, and then completely atrophy. Again, as superfluous: in the era of total preservatives, an abundance of sugars and the absence of rough food, a person will simply not need powerful jaws and impressive incisors.
This is a direct consequence of what kind of food a person has recently begun to eat: instead of coarse, unprocessed, with an abundance of fiber, it is sublimated, soft, which often does not give any load on the jaws at all. If the evolution of food continues to go in this direction, then the evolution of our oral cavity will gradually reduce useless teeth to nothing, turning it into a kind of toad's mouth.
However, if dental atrophy is still not our very near future, then some other external changes will manifest themselves on the face of humanity during our lifetime. By the middle of the XXI century, the inhabitants of the Earth, for the most part, will significantly darken their skin and acquire slanting eyes. This will be the price for the frantic birth rate among Asians and Africans and the anti-baby boom among the Caucasian race.
As an example of such a demographic imbalance, modern Italians are often cited, who from the blue-eyed and blond inhabitants of the Roman Empire "were reborn" into burning brunettes with black eyes due to the serious genetic expansion of southern peoples.
You don't need to be an anthropologist, the author of the publication notes, to be sure of this forecast. It is enough to walk through any major European city to understand: today, white Europeans are rapidly approaching the minority. Statistics say the same: now on earth there are only 22% of people with light skin color.
The reason is both in the gigantic birth rate in Caucasian, Asian and African families, and in genetics. The fact is that it is the slanting eyes and dark skin color that children inherit from their parents in the first place. However, some argue, this is "an option for the poor," and the future of humanity is, quite possibly, a story about rich smart handsome men and poor stupid freaks. In the coming decades, genetic engineering will allow to regulate the sex of the unborn child, his skin color, IQ and a bunch of other nuances of appearance and behavior, turning a long, unreliable, but natural evolution into purposeful design.
There is, however, a chance, as futurist Ray Kurzweil believes, that information technology will make a real revolution “for everyone” in biology, medicine, energy and other industries. According to his calculations, thanks to the new tools, by 2020 humanity will "upgrade" the brain with computers and create artificial intelligence - and then all the current forecasts will not make sense at all.
However, there are other predictions about the evolutionary process. As previously reported, with fewer men becoming fathers at an older age, human evolution is heading for an end, according to a leading geneticist. According to Professor Steve Jones of University College London (UCL), men who have children after age 35 are more likely to pass on genotype changes to them.
