A resident of the New Zealand city of Mosgil, Otago region, called the secret of her longevity to proper sleep and healthy eating. Her words are quoted by the local newspaper Otago Daily Times. On Wednesday, May 22, Muriel Barbara celebrated her centenary. “I don't feel like my age. I enjoy life, - she said. "I like spending time with children, we get along well with them." The long-liver recalls how 73 years ago she married Anthony Barbara, and after 18 years of marriage, her husband died.
The widow used every opportunity to make money. Barbara changed many jobs: she cooked pastries and cakes, knitted to order. Recalling the years of her youth in her hometown, the woman noted that she led an active lifestyle. She went dancing and did a variety of sports, including playing hockey and skating. Barbara, who has four children, 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren, is confident that she has survived to old age thanks to healthy sleep and a balanced diet.
The birthday girl admitted that she does not like to be in the spotlight and would gladly "sit out in the bushes." The main celebration of the anniversary is scheduled for Saturday 25 May. Family and friends of Barbara will gather at the table: more than a hundred people were invited to the birthday. In April, it was reported that a 100-year-old yoga teacher from the United States shared her secret to longevity. Tao Porchon-Lynch claims to have lived to a ripe old age thanks to "eternal optimism."
