This strange and terrible disease has plagued humanity for a long time. Young people age in a matter of days and doctors simply cannot understand what is happening. Accordingly, it is also impossible to find a cure for the misfortune: a young, healthy body suddenly begins to simply die and goes out in front of desperate parents. Here are a few cases that doctors from all over the world are still trying to sort out in order to shed some light on this terrible problem.
Ancient times
The Middle Ages and earlier period have practically no data on this terrible disease. At that time, they generally died quite early, such was the truth of life. However, it is known that back in the 12th century a certain Mary lived in Scotland, who, to the horror of the villagers, rapidly grew old and died at only 23 years old. In Russia, a frightening case is dated to the era of Ivan the Terrible: one of his boyars, 19-year-old Vasily Mikhailo, aged in just six months and gave his soul to God by the time he turned twenty.

History has not brought us information about the monarchs suffering from the same disease. Rather, only one case was widely publicized: Ludwig II, King of Hungary, was famous for his restless character from childhood, and at the age of 11 he already made a child to his concubine. Unfortunately, the king only lived to be 18 and, judging by the scraps of data, he also aged only a few months.

In 1716, the personal chronicler of the English Earl William Sheffield brought into the family archives a strange story about an older son, Baronet Thomas Sheffield. It was said that at the age of 12, Thomas had already taken part in several fights with the Scots, which pleased his parent a lot. However, a year later, the baronet had the first gray hair, then he stopped walking and died at 16, outwardly resembling a decrepit old man.

But cases of premature old age did not remain a relic of ancient times. After a long lull, a strange illness again made itself felt, now in America. In 1905, Michael Sommers of Bernardino consulted a doctor for help: a 16-year-old boy developed osteoporosis. Aesculapius was surprised and summoned colleagues from all over the country for a consultation, but just a month later Michael died, struck down by a typically senile disease.

In the middle of the last century, the young Frenchwoman Laura Ravel became the talk of the town for the whole country. The fact is that she gave birth to her first child at the age of eight, for which they even wanted to ride the enterprising dad on a zipper (that's how the funny French called the electric chair). But having familiarized themselves with the materials of the case, the judge and the jury were forced to reconsider their decision, because at such a tender age Laura looked like a fully formed girl. The couple lived in perfect harmony for several more years and the girl even managed to give birth to another child, and then suddenly began to grow old. Laura lived to be 13 years old and died of old age.
