According to some historians, the lost Atlantis is worth looking for in India. More precisely, you need to pay special attention to the Girinagar mountain complex.

Geological, zoological, botanical, geographical, climatological, sociological and historical data found in the region indicate that it possesses all the signs of the lost Atlantis. However, the work of scientists and archaeologists continues and their main task is to find physical evidence of this ancient civilization.

The geography and developed culture of India, its opening archaeological sites give reason to believe that this country can be a good candidate in the search for Atlantis.

Plato linked Atlantis with Greece and Egypt. In search of an ancient state, it makes sense to look for traces of it where the Greeks were. They mastered the Mediterranean basin and were actively interested in Asia. This part of the world at that time was a source of new knowledge, trade, new opportunities. In Western India, on the Kathiyavar Peninsula, a mountain complex was discovered, representing rare geological features. Historians believe that this mountain complex, called Girnar (Girinagar), demonstrates all the historical and geomorphological characteristics of a civilization that the Greek philosopher Plato called Atlantis in 350 BC.

The geographic references of Greek historical and religious sources were carried over from the East, an obvious place of great interest, to the West. But the strait, where Iran and Oman are today, was the gateway to the unknown world of the East, the place where ancient cultures developed first. Perhaps for the ancient Greeks, the Pillars of Hercules were not located in Gibraltar, but in the Persian Gulf, outside of which was the Indus Valley civilization. The confusion arose during the Middle Ages.

And it is connected with cards. As you know, in those days the Christian Church did not really like the followers of other religions. The task was to divert attention from the pagan and incomprehensible India. The inquisitors did not really want the Europeans to find this country. Scientists believe that a forgery was made with the cards.

And the German-Dutch cartographer Gerard Mercator (1512-1594) took part in it. It was he who named the ocean passing through Gibraltar "Atlantic", thereby confusing contemporaries and descendants. It is believed that he simply turned the ancient map that came down to him in reverse. Thus, it turned out that the Pillars of Hercules for the Greeks were located in the East, and not vice versa. Archaeologists confirm a Greek presence in the regions of Mesopotamia and India, as well as the absence of such in the Atlantic Ocean region.

Most likely, the mythical Atlantis is the Indian civilization of the Indus Valley. How did it come about?

About 74,000 years ago, the Toba volcano erupted on the Indonesian island of Sumatra, causing a massive blackout of the sky over the entire planet. For six years, the Earth's atmosphere was filled with ash, and for another 1000 years the planet was in constant, exclusively winter conditions.

The volcanic winter forced people from Central Asia to move south to milder conditions. Tribes located in the territory of modern Russia and even from Europe may have reached Africa and Western India in search of warmer conditions, carrying the paternal chromosome R1a1a.

In northern India, prehistoric people settled on the heights of the Bhimbetka Caves and along the Narmada River. Because of the Toba eruption, the atmosphere was blocking sunlight, the temperature dropped to freezing. Hunter-gatherers, unprepared for this sudden climatic change, undoubtedly died even in tropical latitudes, in both the northern and southern hemispheres.

But there is a possibility that people who moved along the Narmada River reached the Indian Ocean, whose deep underwater currents, which retained the warmth of the pre-volcanic period, warmed the coast. While exploring the Kathiyavar Peninsula, the surviving tribes discovered geothermal springs. According to Plato, Atlantis had hot water from the earth. The state of Gujarat is a volcanically active region with several geothermal springs still operating.

Atlantis could have disappeared as a result of massive earthquakes and climate warming. The adherents of this version believe that as a result of the movements of the earth's crust, the outlines of the coastlines of the lakes in the Himalayas were changed, which in turn led to the flooding of rivers in India and the flooding of vast territories. Perhaps the Great Flood described in the Bible was associated with mountain reservoirs.
