Never say never, and one day you will meet a tiny creature in a bright hat

Many tales, legends and legends tell about little creatures - gnomes. However, it is unlikely that even the most ardent Tolkienists believe that these "short-sighted" exist or once existed in reality.

Nevertheless, despite all the skepticism of scientists, from time to time, amazing discoveries are made that make, if not believe in the reality of the gnomes, then at least doubt the opposite.

Remains from Indonesia

In 2004, archaeological excavations took place on the island of Flores, which is part of Indonesia. Scientists have discovered the bones of unknown creatures, very reminiscent of humans, only these people, judging by the size of the bones, should have been very small in stature - less than one meter!

The laboratory analysis carried out confirmed the guesses: the remains really belonged to the representative of the descendants of Homo erectus, that is, Homo erectus. And - to an adult representative: it was clear from the worn teeth. Surprised scientists began more detailed studies of the find, and found that bones, similar to human ones, still have a very primitive structure. Such a skeleton, according to the findings of experts, could belong to an unknown population, possibly a dead-end branch of human development.

Then, a thorough computer analysis was carried out, which helped to make a shocking scientific conclusion: the creature, whose remains were found in a cave in Indonesia, lived … eighteen thousand years ago! Who was this distant ancestor of the modern human race? Judging by the appearance of the bones, it is possible that he is a gnome.

Underground city in Turkey

During excavations in the Turkish valley of Gurem, archaeologists made an unexpected discovery. At a depth of 80 meters, they found a whole underground city - there were river beds, mines, ventilation systems, small stone houses and miniature hearths.

The underground passages, with the help of which it was possible to move around the city, turned out to be so low that people of normal height could hardly squeeze through there. Just right for the gnomes. Or, at any rate, for creatures that are very similar to them. Scientists could not give an answer - for whom was the underground city built, who lived there?

Settlement in the mountains of California

Marseilles journalist Karis Durier once went on a trip to America. While exploring the picturesque mountains of California, he suddenly discovered a settlement of outlandish creatures hidden from human eyes.

The creatures he found resembled humans, but even more resembled tiny lemurs. Their houses - or rather, buildings that did not resemble human structures - were so well disguised that they were almost impossible to notice. Durier's television report became truly sensational, stirred up the academic community, and now, perhaps, a special expedition will be sent to those regions.

By the way: American journalist Edward Lancer wrote about the settlement of a small people - either lemurts or gnomes - on the same slopes of the California mountains back in the 30s of the twentieth century.

Meetings in Ireland

Residents of Ireland today willingly tell stories about how one of their ancestors, friends or acquaintances met with gnomes. It is believed that gnomes (here they are called leprechauns) have long been found in Ireland, having fallen in love with the harsh climate and green hills of this country.

According to one of the journalists, a resident of Northern Ireland, Mrs. Barnham, claims that she saw the dwarf with her own eyes, and relatively recently - less than 20 years ago. She was 15 at the time.

Together with her younger brother, the girl cut peat near her father's house. At some point, she was left alone - her brother went to the house to rest a little. Soon the young Irish woman felt someone's insistent gaze on her, from which, according to her, literally shivered. The girl straightened up - and almost screamed in surprise and surprise: in front of her, at a short distance, was a strange creature. She was small in stature, in bright green clothes, and on her head was a pointed crimson cap. The Irish woman began to call her brother, and the creature immediately stepped back, and then completely disappeared.

What is known about gnomes?

Residents of Ireland, Scotland, Wales know for sure: a small people once lived in their area. Gnomes - or leprechauns - dug underground passages in the hills, dug up treasures, forged mining tools, and crafted jewelry. These short creatures possessed magic and knew how to disappear at the sight of a person - during the day or at night. A very tense relationship was established between the dwarves and humans.

In general, the word "gnome" - a cross between "genomos" ("underground inhabitant" in Latin) and "gnosis" ("knowledge" in Greek) - was invented by the famous alchemist Paracelsus. This word he called the spirit of the earth. In the future, the characters of Scandinavian and Germanic myths began to be called gnomes.

Irish manuscripts dating from the 12th to 16th centuries say that gnomes used to be people who lived underwater. They were portrayed as cunning old men with a long beard, always in bright clothes - even though the gnomes spent almost all their time in caves, forging tools, mining ore and gold, or creating jewelry from precious stones. They talked about the bad character of the gnomes - they often did not get along with each other, preferring to live and work alone, and even avoided meeting with representatives of other races.

Recently, scientists have again become interested in the question of the existence of gnomes. Every now and then new facts appear - the results of excavations and research, and sometimes even videos - directly or indirectly confirming that the gnomes exist or existed. Probably, the solution to this phenomenon lies ahead.
