As you know, many animals have the ability to hibernate. At this moment, all vital processes in their body slow down, and they receive nutrition from internal reserves and consume several times less oxygen. A person does not possess such a feature, but it would be extremely useful for, say, long-term space travel. And domestic scientists are currently developing a drug that can help with this.

The first experiments of the drug on laboratory animals showed extreme efficiency. In laboratory animals, body temperature slightly decreased, blood flow and heart rate slowed down, and oxygen consumption by organs and tissues was significantly reduced due to a pronounced slowdown in all biochemical processes. At the same time, the organisms retained their viability. After coming out of "artificial hibernation", the rodents recovered within 24 hours. But the most important thing is that when the metabolism slows down and oxygen consumption decreases, the nervous tissue, the most sensitive to these processes, did not suffer.

According to scientists, the duration of sleep depends on the administered dose, but longer "hibernation" will require a different degree of control. After all, animals that have this property by nature have special “depots” for nutrition for a long time. In our country, such depots are poorly developed. Therefore, before proceeding to longer tests, it is required to solve at least this problem.
