You've probably heard more than once about various creatures from myths and legends and know who unicorns are? And if they existed or others still live on our planet?
Some of the legends of Germany claim that earlier on the territory of this country one could meet unicorns, whose habitat is the Harz mountain range in the central part of Germany. Interestingly, many Germans still believe that unicorns are real and not just a fairy tale. Many centuries ago, the territory of Germany was covered with dense forests, like many other places on Earth, and not far from Scharzfeld, a mysterious woman lived in the Steingrotte cave, legend says. Many people came to the woman in the hope of healing and gaining wisdom, and she helped them. Not everyone liked the miracles that the woman performed and Christian missionaries declared her a witch.
A detachment led by a monk was sent for the woman, but as soon as they approached the woman, a unicorn appeared and the woman ran away. The detachment pursued the woman, but she uttered some words and the monk fell into a pit that suddenly appeared, where the soldiers found him dead. It is said that in 1663 the remains of a unicorn were discovered in a woman's cave and people from all over Germany began to flock to the Harz mountains to see this miracle. A few decades later, another skeleton of a mythical animal was discovered and Leibniz was engaged in its research. After an amazing find, he no longer doubted the existence of unicorns.
In 1991, a scientist from Austria named Antal Festetiks filmed a documentary about the nature of these places and claims that he managed to see a unicorn, which disappeared as suddenly as it appeared. Legends say that the power of this creature lies in the horn and the most ancient unicorns have a carbuncle. It is a red stone that appears on the horn through the crystallization of blood and was considered by ancient people to be the king of all precious stones. He was credited with many mystical properties, from getting rid of nightmares to the ability to heal any poison.
