In the diaries of John Dee, a special alphabet was discovered, to which correspondence tables were brought. The alphabet was Enochian, the diaries claimed that all teaching was based on the secrets of an apocryphal relic, which the church ranked among heretical texts - the Book of Enoch.
John Dee truly believed that his magic was an offshoot of theology. He believed that a connection with the spirit world is necessary to understand nature, since the world was created by God as a complex system, and spirits and angels are the divine way to reveal their presence. John Dee believed that people are not able to hear God, since he is too large for the weak human mind.
But to comprehend God through angels and spirits, through the secrets of numerology and magic of numbers, using a quasi-mathematical order in counting the letters and numbers of angelic and spiritual names is quite possible. John Dee himself was a Catholic, while he was of Kabbalistic origin. However, I did not see any contradiction in this.

John Dee and Edward Kelly - Creators of the Enochian System
Probably the first steps to create a new kind of occult practice were taken by John Dee out of frustration. He was deeply disgusted by the idea of the impossibility of comprehending all natural secrets and solving all the riddles. Therefore, I began to look for ways to receive help from God, angels, spirits, opportunities for communication with these higher entities without harm to myself and my immortal soul.
In the search, he was assisted by Edward Kelly, a medium, and in the past - a criminal (he was convicted as a counterfeiter). John Dee and Edward Kelly traveled together for six years, from 15383 to 1589, conducting seances and looking for signs of divine manifestations. According to his contemporaries, John was honest and unfaithful in his faith, unlike Kelly, who, quite possibly, could fool his partner.
Edward Kelly and John Dee argued that the creation of this system was based on the instructions they received from the angels. This was believed by a large number of occultists who practiced such magic. However, others have noted a disturbing and disconcerting similarity between Enochian magic and Peter de Abano's grimoires like Heptameron.
Moreover, John Dee was familiar with this occult work. The fact that Edward Kelly was a counterfeiter and, in general, a man with an unclean reputation added fuel to the fire. Some even believed that the medium was simply fooling the sincerely believing John in order to extort money from him. But followers of angelic magic have actively disputed this opinion.
The date of creation of the Enochian system is considered to be March 8, 1582, when Edward was introduced to John. He had a magnificent home library, the fame of which resounded throughout Europe, and therefore various scientists often came to Dee to touch the works he kept and talk. However, John was extremely interested in Edward's talent - the ability of a medium, communicating with the upper world, as well as a clairvoyant. The fruit of the joint work of this duo was the creation of a special direction in magic that still lives today.
