So, what prompted me to parse this name? Yes, just have repeatedly observed how even so obvious the Russian origin of the name Ruslan is, many are trying to ascribe to the Turkic languages, I think it is worth putting an end to this issue … I remind you that there are NO TURKISH WORDS IN RUSSIAN LANGUAGE, on the contrary - TURKISH LANGUAGES ARE FORMED IN RUSSIAN KOROS … If Ruslan is a Turkic name for them, I would not be surprised if they find the word RUS of Turkic origin …

Let's deal with this simple example, but first, let's, as usual, see what the official etymology tells us..:

Everything is prosaic - linguists, as usual, tied the origin to the closest similar word, supposedly of Türkic origin "arslan" in the meaning of "lion", to notice the root "RUS" in the name RUSLAN and the obvious parallel with the word "ROSSOLAN" present on ancient maps … they do not want just as they do not want to understand and explain the origin of the same word "arslan" … Ruslans are pleased to realize that they were allegedly called lions - and everyone is happy. But not me…

After all, there are also sane researchers who

Indeed, what is this strange letter "E", which materialized out of nowhere … So, "ER" is nothing else than our native Russian word "YAR" - the sun.

Let's take a closer look at the word:

ERUSLAN = YARA + SA + LAN. YARA - everything is clear it SOLAR or TSAR. The root of the second order "LAN" in the sense of EQUAL, I have already analyzed in my last article, it is formed from the word PALM - LADON, which in turn is GIVING WARM, or giving fire … The English word LAND also originates from the Russian word DLAN. You can, of course, break the LAN root into smaller components - LA + HA = FIRE (HEAT) HA, but in this case, I do not see the need for this, since most often LANAis already used as an independent root. And, by the way, the fire is also made on a level ground … As you can see, there is nothing Turkic here at all.

In total we get:

Promotional video:

ERUSLAN = SUNNY PLAIN = KING'S PLAIN (earth)

But what about the word ARSLAN (lion)?

ARSLAN = YAR (a) + SA + LAN = SUN FROM THE PLAIN = KING OF THE PLAIN

As we know, lions are found in the savannahs (plain), and the head of a lion with a mane resembles the sun, which is why the lion is the king of beasts, as it looks like the sun, and in Russian the words sun and tsar are identical.

You have already noticed, although I have deduced somewhat different semantic meanings - but YARSLAN (arslan) and YERUSLAN are one and the same word and can mean:

  • SUN or KING OF THE PLAIN (LION)
  • SUNNY OR KING'S PLAIN (EARTH)

But there is a small BUT - we still have the name Ruslan, and not I (a) Rslan, and in Russian word formation YARA and RA still have a difference …

Therefore RUSLAN - will mean LIGHT or RUSSIAN PLAIN. Although, it can also mean - a cry (roar) from the plain, but this is less likely, on this variant of the meaning of the root "RA" - I will dwell in more detail in one of the following publications.
