Over the past 10 years, earthquakes have killed 42% more people than in the previous 50, climatologists came to this conclusion. Scientists note that volcanoes, which were considered extinct yesterday, are beginning to wake up everywhere.

More recently, geophysicists have recorded a rise in the ground in the vicinity of Rome (this is the first evidence of the formation of a magma bubble, i.e. lava) underground, just 30 km from the city is the Colli-Albani volcano, which scientists considered inactive for many years. Today, seismologists fear that the eternal city is threatened with the fate of Pompeii, but the worst thing is that this eruption could become a catalyst for the launch of a series of even more powerful eruptions around the world. Are we facing a global catastrophe? How to avoid the death of millions?

In antiquity, volcanoes were called the blacksmiths of the Gods, but today in the 21st century they are compared to time bombs and they can detonate at any minute. Italian scientists urge to prepare for the worst, because only 30 km from Rome in the Albanian mountains, an eruption may begin.

In fact, calderas are giant craters, there are dozens of them on the planet, some have gone out, while others can destroy all living things. The National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology of Italy monitors the caldera in the suburbs of Naples around the clock, where the famous Phlegrean fields are located (translated into Italian. Campi Flegrei).

Phlegrean fields are called one of the hottest spots in Italy (hot lava can be found at a depth of only 3 km). Scientists claim that the dormant volcano in this area is more powerful than Vesuvius. If an eruption begins, more than 400 thousand people will be in the disaster zone. According to the calculations of geologists, the ash will cover about 1 million km², and because of atmospheric pollution on the planet, the so-called volcanic winter may come.

What seemed like a figment of the imagination of Hollywood screenwriters yesterday may become reality tomorrow. There are about 20 supervolcanoes on the planet, and the largest is the American Yellowstone (its eruption is comparable in power to the explosion of 1000 atomic bombs).

The Russian Karymshina was also included in the list of especially dangerous. This supervolcano slumbers on the Kamchatka Peninsula. In total, there are about 60 active volcanoes in Russia. Most are located in the Far East.

Until now, scientists have not come up with a way to stop or prevent an eruption, but they say that in the West they have already learned to use the power of nature for military purposes

Today, there are about 1,500 active volcanoes, and this is only on land, those that are hidden in the bowels of the oceans, modern science is not able to count. Which of them can wake up and at what moment it will happen, no one can say. Moreover, according to scientists, the period of a volcanic eruption is completely unpredictable (it can last from several days to several million years). Will Americans or Europeans be able to live with constantly erupting volcanoes?
