Seeking extraterrestrial life in a limitless universe is like a needle in a haystack. But, in large part thanks to the Kepler spacecraft, many exoplanets have already been discovered on which living organisms can inhabit.
NASA says that they have not yet found 100% proof of the existence of life outside our planet, but despite this, the department has held a rather strange event that suggests the opposite.
Thus, the American Space Agency and the Library of Congress have invited scientists, historians, philosophers and theologians from around the world to participate in a two-day symposium entitled Preparing for Discovery. Agenda: "Determine how ready we are for the inevitable discovery of extraterrestrial life, be it simple microorganisms or intelligent beings."
“We intend to consider all scenarios related to the detection of life. Once you've found germs, that's one thing. If you have found intelligence, it is different. And if they are able to communicate, then this is already something third, but what exactly they say is a completely different story,”says the astronomer, organizer of the symposium and in the past chief historian of NASA Stephen J. Dick.
“The idea is not to wait until we make a discovery, but to prepare society in advance for the consequences that may arise when it is made,” says Dick in an interview.
HuffPost also asked Dick how he feels about UFO reports from all over the world.
“I have an open mind about this. More than 90% of cases can be explained by natural phenomena, etc. The question is what to do with the remaining 3 or 4 percent. I believe they require more thorough further study."
