The construction of a landfill near Lincoln, Nebraska saw the discovery of chilling evidence of the power of the Yellowstone supervolcano. During the work, the workers suddenly discovered a thick layer of ash, the analysis of which showed that it belongs to the Yellowstone caldera. The age of the ash is estimated at 600,000 years, its layer is almost seventy meters long and fluctuating in width from one and a half to four and a half meters. According to geological data, after the eruption, this ash settled on the surface of the water of one of the lakes left after the Ice Age, which then dried up, and the ash sank down to a depth of one and a half meters.
Of greatest interest and concern is the fact that the city of Lincoln is located at a distance of 1,100 km from Yellowstone, but a thick layer of volcanic ash was found near it, which indicates a catastrophic eruption in the past. It is quite possible that the Yellowstone supervolcano, which has begun to wake up, may repeat the catastrophic events of the past.
