A group of American scientists have calculated the timing of the manifestation of the new coronavirus. The study is published in the journal Annals of Internal Medicine.

Previously, scientists assumed that the quarantine period of 14 days for COVID-19 is not enough, and it should be extended to 24 days. According to the new data, 97.5 percent of those infected with the virus show symptoms within 11.5 days, and the average incubation time is 5.1 days. In this regard, scientists say that quarantine of 14 days is justified.

Scientists analyzed data from 181 SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus infections outside Hubei province until February 24, 2020. 108 of the cases lived outside of China, and most of the patients confirmed a recent trip to Wuhan or have lived there. The average incubation period for COVID-19 is 5.1 days (4.5 to 5.8), and 97.5 percent of cases showed symptoms within 11.5 days (8.2 to 15.6). Scientists have modeled that one percent of all infected people can show symptoms after a 14-day quarantine.

Earlier, scientists from Singapore have identified new symptoms of the COVID-19 disease caused by the coronavirus. It is clarified that these symptoms create a false picture of the patient having dengue fever. A patient infected with coronavirus may develop various itchy rashes and fever. At the same time, there will be no symptoms characteristic of COVID-19.
