At the beginning of autumn, several tornadoes suddenly "attacked" the inhabitants of Surgut in the Tyumen region. They settled over the reservoir of the local hydroelectric power station. The phenomenon for these places, to put it mildly, is atypical - after all, the west of Siberia is not the coast of America. It's as if a blizzard suddenly started in San Francisco! However, soon we will probably not be surprised at this either … The other day, in England, the traditional “mountain marathon” was canceled for the first time - because of a terrible downpour and a stormy wind that suddenly broke off. True, by that time more than a thousand people were already in the mountains - the poor fellows had to be rescued. And scientists shrug their shoulders, there are no intelligible explanations for these surprises and cataclysms

1. Heavenly battles

Ghosts, ghosts and spirits did not appear in our time only lazy. Another thing is when an inexplicable phenomenon is observed by hundreds of people who have got to a certain place at a certain time. For example, in history there are a lot of cases when people saw a strange "movie" in the sky in places of major battles. The past battle was reflected as if in a recording on a huge screen. Such phenomena were called honing, or the attachment of some ghosts to a specific geographical point. Here are the most famous cases.

In 1643 in England, near Edgehill, the troops of Prince Rupert and Oliver Cromwell fought. More than five thousand bodies remained on earth. And just a month later, local shepherds saw a miracle. In the sky, before their eyes, two ghostly armies - the king and the parliament - met again. Guns rumbled, drums beat, armor thundered …

In June 1815, a week after the Battle of Waterloo, the inhabitants of the Belgian town of Verviers watched a fierce battle in the sky. The ranks of soldiers were marching at each other, cannons fired, cavalry flew swiftly from the flanks. The "militant" ended, as in life, with the defeat of the French.

In 1785 in Silesia, in the town of Ujest, General von Kosel was buried. At that moment, when the coffin began to be lowered into the ground, a column of marching soldiers appeared in the sky, paying their last respects to the fallen.

In 1888, for several hours in the sky over the town of Varasdin in Croatia, cavalry detachments passed, led by an officer with a sparkling blade in his hand.

We have seen similar miracles too. During the battle with the Teutons on the ice of Lake Peipsi in 1242, many Novgorodians from the army of Prince Alexander Nevsky saw how the "God regiment" suddenly appeared to the Russians to rescue against the background of the sky … And on the night before the Battle of Kulikovo, the soldiers of Dmitry Donskoy saw how the Apostle Peter exterminated the Basurman army in the clouds.

… All these cases are described in chronicles, in newspapers, in the memoirs of eyewitnesses. Obviously, people did see something in the sky. But what it was - scientists have no clarity.

Mirages are caused by the refraction of light in the atmosphere. They were investigated in detail by American physicists A. Fraser and W. Mach. They noted the amazing property of "atmospheric lenses" to create different visions and alter the information carried by light as it spreads through the mass of air. A sort of giant "projector". But it is not entirely clear why these mirages can appear long after the battle.

Mass psychosis? Unlikely. Often there are simply no objective reasons and prerequisites for it.

Parapsychologists, of course, know the answer: the secret of "heavenly battles" is that during real battles a powerful release of psychophysical energy occurs. This clot is imprinted in space and then excites visions in the brains of sensitive people. In general, beautiful, but too otherworldly.

And how then to explain two more descriptions of "heavenly battles". In 1686 in England, with such a heavenly procession of troops, guns, sabers, helmets fell on the ground. And in 1880, after the "heavenly battle" over the town of Kilcanny, broken trees and traces of blood on the grass were found on the ground … A practical joke? Writers' fantasies? It may well be so. But beautiful.

In a word, the celestial "militants" have remained a mystery. But there were other incomprehensibility, more prosaic.

2. Animal rain

A very curious natural phenomenon, known for a long time. It always looks about the same. Heavy rain, wind, the sky is black. And suddenly all kinds of small animals begin to fall on the heads of the astonished citizens! Here are just a few of these cases:

On September 7, 1953, thousands of frogs fell from the sky over the city of Leicester in Massachusetts, USA.

In 1978, it was raining shrimp in New South Wales, Australia.

Scientific American on January 15, 1877 recorded a shower of snakes reaching 18 inches in length (about 45 cm) in Memphis … More than fifteen animal rains were recorded in the United States in the 19th century alone.

In 2002, it rained fish in the village of Corona (Greece).

In 2007, it rained spiders in the province of Salta (Argentina).

Scientists agree that such wonderful "precipitation" is the result of tornadoes and hurricanes that collect "crops" from fields and water areas and evenly scatter it over a certain area. However, there are many mystical theories. In particular, showers of toads or mice are believed to be the result of witchcraft. "Living" rains are attributed to teleportation, aliens, and the intelligence services of states testing biological weapons. As they say, if you want - believe …

3. Giant city

Cryometeorites, huge blocks of ice, falling from the sky for no reason, began to appear relatively recently. On August 13, 1849, a block of ice weighing more than half a ton fell on the Isle of Skye (Scotland), destroying the building. Similar cases were observed on April 2, 1973 in Manchester (England), on April 25, 1969 in Lakewood (USA), on May 8, 1970 in Yagotin (Ukraine, USSR). Over the past decade, about 50 such incidents have been recorded.

Contrary to some theories, these are not meteorites from space. Scientists attribute this to the consequences of global climate change. The processes of circulation of air layers are disrupted: some heat up more, others less. This allows the hailstones to hang in the air for longer. Having reached a critical mass, a piece of ice falls, accumulating more and more layers of moisture and becoming completely obscenely large.

4. Ball lightning

Ball lightning also met in ancient times, and has always been considered something otherworldly - from the punishment of the gods to restless human souls. Ufologists also happily attribute extraterrestrial origin to ball lightning.

The chance of encountering this phenomenon is approximately 0.01 percent, but, nevertheless, contacts do happen:

On August 17, 1978, a group of Soviet climbers camped in the Caucasus Mountains was attacked by fireball. The fireball flew into their sleeping bags one by one. One person died, four received severe burns.

On July 7, 1977, two fireballs in an open-air cinema in Fujian province, China, killed two children.

In 1980, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, a red ball chased residents, set fire to their clothes and burned several houses.

There are a lot of interpretations. There is a version that a standing electromagnetic wave arises between the clouds and the earth, on which a gas discharge can form, moving along the field lines of force. There is a version of the plasmoid, thermochemical effects that occur in saturated water vapor with a strong electric field … However, all this does not explain the "rationality" of ball lightning - it seems that it moves meaningfully, flying around obstacles and penetrating into the premises through the smallest openings …

5. Waves-connecting rods

Often ships disappear into the sea without a trace. Not only small yachts and boats - sometimes huge supertankers also disappear. Over the past 20 years, there are more than two hundred such "titanics" in the World Ocean. Most of the catastrophes were caused by waves of the size of a multi-storey building that suddenly appeared on the surface of the sea, which rushed to the ship at a frantic speed.

Satellite imagery confirmed the existence of single crank-rods up to 40-50 meters high in the ocean. Boris Levin, director of the Institute of Marine Geology and Geophysics, believes that giant waves are the result of a random addition of the amplitudes of ordinary waves. But, unlike tsunamis, they are not predictable. What is dangerous. So much for the devils in the still water …

Roman Vilfand, Director of the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia: "Snow in the capital can start this weekend"

“This year's winter will be colder than last year, although no particularly extreme frost is expected. Snow, by the way, is likely to fall in the near future, perhaps this weekend. In December in the Central Federal District, the average monthly air temperature is expected to be higher than normal. It is still difficult to give exact numbers.

It will freeze in January, and in most regions of the country. February will be cold too. In most of the territory of Russia (with the exception of Chukotka and the Magadan region) the air temperature is expected to be lower than in February 2008.

But we assume that the spring will be early. In March, it will already become significantly warmer. Above normal temperature regime is expected in most of the European territory of the country and in the Ural Federal District, as well as in the southern half of Siberia. Below normal, the air temperature is expected in the north of the Far East. In the rest of the country, the air temperature is expected to be close to the multiyear average.

April promises to be warm too …

Well, it's too early to look further."
