Some places seem to be created to be inhabited by phantoms and restless spirits: for example, abandoned houses, gloomy vacant lots, dark dense forests. The main thing is that it should be an old historical place.
The remains of Bhangar Fort, built in the 16th century in the state of Rajasthan, are ideally suited for such a place and therefore it is not surprising that it has long been nicknamed "the ghost fort". Creepy phenomena are very common here.
Bhangar stands at the foot of the mountain and no one has lived in it for a long time. Its walls are gradually crumbling and the ruins are slowly falling into complete desolation.
Once upon a time there were temples, houses, shops and even a palace on its territory, but now everything is abandoned and ruined.
The fort was founded in 1573 as the luxurious residence of Madho Singh, General of Emperor Akbar and the second son of the great ruler Bhagwant Das. It had powerful fortress walls, strong gates and a royal palace, which once delighted people with its magnificent grandeur.
Nevertheless, already in 1783 the people very quickly left this place. There are even legends about the fact that all people once simply disappeared. Officially, it is believed that the people left because of the drought and the ensuing famine, but this is not confirmed.
One way or another, the fort city quickly became deserted and its buildings began to fall apart. Already in our time, at the entrance to the fort, representatives of the Indian archaeological society posted a sign that at night the entrance to the city was strictly prohibited.

Now only rats, monkeys and ghosts live in Bhangar. Tourists often come here and travelers came across local ghosts so often that soon the fame of one of the most cursed places in India went about Bhangar.
There are several mystical legends about why the fort became depopulated. Basically two stories are told. One tells that at one time Saint Balu Nath lived in the fort. It was said about him that he lived in these places long before the construction of the fort and was generally immortal.
He allowed to build buildings in this place, but on the condition that none of them will be so large as to cast a shadow on the house of the saint or on himself during meditation in the forest. If this condition is violated, Balu Nath promised to impose a terrible curse on the fort.
“As soon as the shadow of your palaces touches me or my dwelling, your city will cease to exist and will be destroyed by wind and dust,” the saint said ominously, but the ruler agreed to his terms and the fort was built. The royal palace at that time consisted of only 3 floors and none of the buildings cast a large shadow.
But the years passed, the conditions were forgotten and more and more high towers appeared in the fort. Once a shadow from them fell on the saint and he cursed the city, but he himself died after that. The saint was buried somewhere in the fort and now his spirit still roams these ruins. from time to time catching people's eyes.
The second story tells about the beautiful princess Bhangara Rani Ratnawati, with whom the black magician Singhia once fell in love. He tried to bewitch the princess to himself with witchcraft and created a magic potion. But the princess accidentally spilled it on the stone and the stone rolled towards the magician and crushed him to death. And before his death, the magician cursed the fort and promised its destruction.
Another version of the same story tells that the princess herself was a black witch and performed witchcraft rituals in which she killed small children stolen from local residents in order to prolong her life and beauty. But she fell in love with a lower caste man and could not marry him. Because of this, she became angry with the whole city and doomed it to torment and pain.
Like the ghost of a saint, the ghost of a princess also allegedly still wanders the fort and when one of the tourists sees a translucent female silhouette among the ruins, everyone immediately assumes that this is the same princess.
Anyway, but it looks like the place is really something unclean. Many say that no grain crops grow here, and if a new building is built here, its roof will bend and it will be impossible to live in the house. It is also said that those who enter the city at night, despite the prohibition of the sign, will never leave it.
It is often said that suddenly in the fort people began to hear enchanting music and laughter of people, then dancing figures appeared, and in the windows of the palace you can see a mysterious dark figure.
They also say that if one of the people comes to the fort and starts walking here and exploring the ruins for too long, then death will overtake him. There is a story about a man who climbed the ruins, and then he was found thrown into a stone well. According to some reports, he himself could not fall like that and someone pushed him, but no one saw strangers next to him.
Another famous case is a tourist bus accident. A bus with 50 people was driving to the fort and out of the blue got into an accident, several people were seriously injured. And there are many such strange cases. Was it an accident or a curse? No one knows.
