Good day! So, a new Search, this time around the city of Smolensk, or rather along the Smolensk Fortress Wall. The necklace of the Russian land - this is what the Smolensk fortress wall was called in the 17th century, when it was completed. The stone for its facing was brought from all over the country, but mainly from the Staritsk quarries, near Tver. But our Search is not about that, the topic will be somewhat different.
Our fortress keeps many secrets and mysteries, there are famous legends, for example, the ghost in the Veselukh Tower, or Underground passages, although the latter are not a legend. But I was personally interested in the fact that our fortress wall, in the area of the Dnieper rivers, the Rachevsky brook is very heavily covered by the earth, just as a large load of soil is noticeable in the area of the Central Park of Culture and Leisure (Lopatinsky Garden), where the fortress is connected to the Kronverk. Let's take a live look at the traces of the mud flood, and try to find out its cause.
The area of the fortress wall near the Dnieper River, take a look at the arches and compare with the photo at the beginning of the article. I think noticeably, about a meter of the wall is missing.

But let's get back to the traces of the flood reflected on the fortress wall. Namely, let's try to look at the excavated parts of the fortress, namely the embankment of St. Vladimir.
Pay attention to the stairs at the end of the embankment, it was from there that the embankment was dug out during construction. And the level of the fortress wall is clearly visible.

Then we went along Bakunin Street, where the fortress was destroyed. They hoped to find a foundation, but they found an old underground passage, though it was buried, you can go through 10 meters, then a collapse.
