The rare white whale was captured by casual observers lapping in the waves off the western coast of Baja California, Mexico.

The footage, which was posted on Facebook by guide and scuba instructor Manuel Gonzalez last month, clearly shows an unusual sea animal. The inhabitant of the sea turned out to be a gray whale with albinism, a congenital lack of pigmentation, in which the object acquires an abnormal pink or white color.

Although rare, it has been documented in several different species, including mice, alligators, giraffes, gorillas and dolphins, as well as humans.

The giant white whale made an impressive impression - it was compared to Moby Dick - a huge white whale that appeared in the famous novel by Herman Melville in 1851 about a ship captain obsessed with revenge.

This is not the first albino whale sighted off the coast of Baja California, leading some to speculate that it may be the same specimen first seen in the region back in 2008.

Also a whale named "Milk Gallon" was seen in 2016. It is unclear, however, whether this latest observation is evidence of a reappearance of the same animal.
