Doctors-microsurgeons of the clinical medical-surgical center in Omsk performed a five-hour operation, during which they sewn the cut off fingers to the man, the center said.

The center explained that a worker of the Tyukalinsky road construction department was taken to the microsurgery department, who cut off four fingers of his hand while working on a circular saw.

At the regional hospital he received first aid and organized prompt delivery to Omsk. To save the hand, the patient had to be taken to the microsurgeons no later than six hours after the injury. The severed fingers were transported in a sealed plastic bag in a container filled with ice.

“With the help of a special microscope - a high-precision digital optical device - the surgeons sutured vessels up to one millimeter in diameter, arteries, veins, nerves and tendons were literally stitched with pinpoint accuracy, osteosynthesis (splicing) of bones was carried out,” the statement says.

The operation was successful. The patient feels well, but there is still a long way of recovery and treatment ahead.

The Clinical Medical-Surgical Center is the only center for hand microsurgery in Siberia, where for more than 30 years they have been treating patients with diseases and injuries of the upper extremities, here they carry out the most complex operations for osteosynthesis and replantation of the extremities.
