The Vasyugan swamps are located in Western Siberia and have been considered a nature reserve since 2017. The territory of the Vasyugan swamps is huge - the length of their system is almost 400 kilometers, and the area is 53 thousand square meters. km, which exceeds the area of Switzerland. At the same time, the size of the swamps is constantly increasing.
Scientists believe the swamps are over 10,000 years old. Local residents say that once there was an ancient Vasyugan sea-lake.
Local legends also say that the devil himself created the swamps - and no one goes to these ruinous places without special need, especially since in summer it is practically impossible to get into the swamps, not even with special equipment, there are only winter paths. And the number of midges and mosquitoes in these places is literally life-threatening, without protection from them it is impossible to be here.
By the way, in the Russian Empire, these places were called the Narym Territory, and the most dangerous political prisoners for the regime were exiled here.

For all their gloomy atmosphere, swamps are of great importance - they are considered the lungs of the planet. They are included in the ecological system of the planet, provide fresh water to nearby rivers and lakes, and the reserves of peat in them are simply enormous.
