UCLA staff and colleagues from the University of Rome have uncovered the secret to longevity. According to them, regular rosemary can help a person live to be 100 years old.
Scientists were able to draw such conclusions after studying the lifestyle of more than 300 centenarians from the remote Italian village of Acciaroli, near the resort of Salerno. The village is located between the sea and the mountains, it is inhabited by several thousand people, at least 300 of whom have lived to be 100 years old or more. Experts note that this number of centenarians is a phenomenal indicator in comparison with large countries. For example, in the United States, only 0.02% of the population can live to be 100 years old.
Trying to understand the secret of longevity of the inhabitants of a small Italian village, scientists managed to find out that the most common seasoning among them is rosemary. When cooking, this greenery is abundantly used by almost all locals. Experts say rosemary can prevent heart disease and Alzheimer's.
Naturally, important factors affecting longevity are fresh air and regular walks in the mountains, because these people are forced to walk through them every day to get to a store or to work.
