The Rosfinmonitoring department reports on the possibility of the appearance of a national cryptocurrency, which is currently consulting with specialists and potential partners. The idea is being discussed with representatives of banks, the Ministry of Finance and the Central Bank. A national cryptocurrency must have an issuer with the necessary rights and assuming all responsibility. Its activities will be licensed, most likely, some financial institution will become the issuer.
Citizens will be able to exchange rubles and currency for cryptocurrency online, for which a special exchange platform will be created. To purchase it, you will need to identify your identity, so anonymous purchases and transfers are planned to be minimized, excluding the possibility of terrorist financing.
At the moment, the idea of banning other cryptocurrencies after the introduction of the national one is being discussed, but this initiative is not new: in the fall of last year, a bill was posted on the regulation.gov.ru website prohibiting the circulation of cryptocurrencies in the Russian Federation.
The banks are not interested in the cryptocurrency itself, but they are attracted by the possibility of using the blockchain technology on which the cryptocurrency is based. Experts note that its implementation would significantly reduce the cost of storing information and making transfers.
