A person around whom dishes are flying by themselves, furniture overturns, window panes and mirrors crack, you will not envy. At these moments, all sorts of thoughts can come to mind, and, of course, first of all, the assumption that an unclean force has started up in the room.

Indeed, what could the employees of one of the law firms in the German town of Rosenheim think when, in November 1967, the lights suddenly went out on their own, the plugs burnt out unexpectedly and seemingly for no apparent reason, and many problems with telephone communications arose.

In short, the problems grew like an avalanche. So, it was required to find the reasons giving rise to them.

For this, the company's management invited specialists who are well versed in electrical phenomena. After a short study, they found that almost all phenomena were accompanied by significant deviations in the office's power supply. In addition, it was found that strange phenomena occurred only during working hours, and, as it turned out a little later, they are somehow connected with 19-year-old worker Anna S.

When, for example, a woman went down the stairs to the hall or walked along the corridor, the chandeliers began to swing, the switched off electric bulbs burst. And as it was removed, everything returned to normal.

When the research entered its final phase, other phenomena appeared: for example, paintings hanging on the walls began to swing from side to side, and some of them even turned 360 degrees or fell off their mounts and fell to the floor.

Imagine how a medieval philistine, a resident of the American city of Portsmouth, Cotton Mete, could feel when in 1662 his house was subjected to a real stone bombardment.

“… Once on Sunday, at 1 am, when the household was sleeping peacefully, there was a terrifying roar: the roof and doors crackled under the hail of stones. The Waltons woke up immediately. At first, everyone decided that the house was attacked by the Indians, however, looking outside, the owner did not see a soul in the desert fields. It only seemed strange to him that the gate seemed to be lifted from its hinges. Walton stepped over the threshold, but was immediately forced to retreat: a real stone squall fell on his head. The family rushed to nail down the doors and windows, but this did not help. Red-hot cobblestones began to roll down the pipe, which it was impossible to even touch. Moreover, stones began to somehow fly into the house through the windows without breaking the glass. All the candles in the house were immediately extinguished. One after another, various objects began to fly into the air and fly out … For a long time Walton could not leave the house: the invisible man immediately began to fire stones at him (Nandor Fodor. Between two worlds. M., 2005).

These are just two examples of the myriad of strange incidents that are known today to researchers of anomalous phenomena. These phenomena are called, which are accompanied by unusual sound effects, the movement of objects without, it would seem, external influence and other deviations from physical standards, poltergeist.

Judging by the actions that accompany it, a poltergeist is a kind of invisible and evil demonic spirit or negative energy. The term "poltergeist" is of German origin. It consists of two words: poltern - “to thunder, knock” and geist - “spirit”.

The first poltergeist phenomena were recorded in ancient Rome. Tales of the "noisy spirit" can also be found in German, British, and Chinese medieval chronicles. A lot of reports about poltergeist are printed in modern newspapers and magazines.

Given the widespread occurrence of this phenomenon, since the end of the 19th century, researchers of mental and paranormal phenomena have been closely studying poltergeist.

In the overwhelming majority of stories related to the poltergeist, first of all, throwing of stones and other objects, various kinds of sound effects, sometimes physical and sexual attacks are noted. In the modern era, technical pranks have been added to this standard set, for example, dialing several numbers on the phone, turning on and off the TV.

As a rule, the poltergeist phenomenon appears suddenly, and it also disappears unexpectedly. Its duration is most often limited to a few days or months, but there are poltergeists that last for years. Moreover, these phenomena usually occur when certain people are nearby.

To give this phenomenon a certain scientific character, at the end of the 70s of the last century, British scientists Alan Gould and A. D. Cornell collected and systematized all the information about the poltergeist that has been recorded in the world since 1800. In total, about 500 such episodes were noted.

As a result of computer analysis, 63 main features of the "evil spirit" were identified. Moreover, in percentage terms, various parameters were as follows. 24% of poltergeist occurrences usually last more than one year; 58% - are most active at night; 48% are accompanied by various sound effects, but most often knocking. In addition, it was found that in 64% of cases small objects are moved; furniture moves in 36%; in 12% of cases, doors and windows are opened and closed. In 7% of cases, witches were accused of the appearance of a poltergeist, and in 2% - demons.

The first famous researcher who became interested in the phenomenon of poltergeist was the famous English physicist and chemist of the 17th century Robert Boyle. It was he who, during his stay in Geneva, made friends with one Protestant priest, whose name was Francis Perrault. It was this man who told the scientist about unknown voices, as well as about the spontaneous movements of objects, which are often observed in his home in France.

Among the poltergeist researchers of our time, the most significant figure is William J. Roll. Having studied 116 officially recorded cases of this phenomenon that occurred over 400 years in more than a hundred countries in Europe, America and Asia, he came to the following conclusions.

First, according to Roll, there are some special spatial structures that have the ability to provoke regularly repeated psychokinesis, the physical manifestations of which do not yet have a scientific explanation.

Secondly, a person who exhibits unconscious psychokinetic reactions at special moments may well act as a poltergeist. It is this person who acts as an agent through which psychic energy is transformed. An important proof of this assumption is the fact that the "noisy spirit" usually manifests itself in the presence of specific people, who are most often in a state of severe stress pressure.

An original approach to solving the mystery of the poltergeist was proposed by the American physicist Donald Korpenter. First of all, he found that during the mechanical manifestations of a poltergeist, energy is constantly emitted in the form of impulses lasting less than a second. The scattering of various objects, the appearance of holes in the glass, sound effects - all these phenomena are well within a given period of time.

Moreover, the maximum amount of energy, obviously, is expended when the poltergeist is connected with heavy objects - cabinets, tables, refrigerators. Corpenter reckoned that they weigh about 50-60 kilograms. Based on these data, the scientist came to the conclusion that the amount of energy expended by the poltergeist ranges from 30 to 120 joules.

But since the duration of each single pulse is extremely short, its power must be large enough - at least not less than 6000 watts.

It was also noted that the air temperature at the moment when the manifestations of the poltergeist are recorded remains practically unchanged. And only occasionally it can drop by a degree and a half. This means that the "noisy spirit" does not draw energy from the surrounding space.

Besides, he moves all the time. Its energy emissions during the "session" are recorded in different places of the same room or in different rooms and even on different floors. And since the number of pulses is not limited by any numerical limit, it is logical to assume that the poltergeist accumulates energy in advance. Therefore, it is quite possible to compare it with a powerful capacitor.

But energy does not arise out of nothing. In any case, there must be its material carrier. Consequently, the scientist concludes, poltergeist is also material by nature.

According to another theory, a poltergeist does manifest itself in a state of stress, but it is not a derivative of psychokinetic effects on the part of a particular person.

Most likely, this person from some elements of his own personality forms visible images that resemble ghosts or phantoms.

It can be assumed that the elements of the world around us, in addition to their material component, have their copies built from so far unknown structures that are stored in the memory of space. Under certain phenomena in human consciousness, these "doubles" begin to function, which is expressed in various mechanical or sound manifestations.

Of course, a poltergeist, like any other phenomenon, is difficult to “fence off” with the standard framework of the world outlook, therefore it has a lot of opponents. However, numerous facts make it difficult to dismiss this phenomenon so easily. Moreover, it is not only recognized but also studied by many quite serious and authoritative scientists. It’s just that science has not yet created the concept in the light of which the poltergeist phenomenon could be explained.
