Astrophysicists from Chile have refuted the well-known theory that black holes can only absorb celestial bodies.

Astrophysicists faced an extraordinary cosmic phenomenon: a black hole (collapsar) was discovered in the cluster of galaxies Abell 2597, which does not absorb, but creates cosmic bodies. The research results were published in the journal Nature.

As the scientists explained, the unique effect was made possible by the icy gas rain: a black hole gives birth to new stars when interacting with precipitation.

The "irregular" black hole was discovered with the Large Telescope at the Paranal Observatory (Chile, Atacama Desert) during a study of space objects in the galaxy cluster Abell 2597. Scientists have seen that gas from cold molecular clouds literally "pours" onto the galactic core. In their opinion, this substance is a catalyst for the formation of space objects.

In fact, the process of "conception" and birth of stars in the womb of a black hole occurs involuntarily, astrophysicists noted. The fact is that the outer shell of the cosmic "rain" is a hot ionized gas, while inside there are molecular clouds with a lower temperature. Clouds emit a massive accretion stream (accretion is the process of increasing the mass of a celestial body through the gravitational attraction of matter, usually gas, from the surrounding space). This stream of cold clouds “aims” at the center of the brightest galaxy in the entire cluster, Abell 2597, a giant elliptical galaxy surrounded by a dense cloud of hot plasma, which we call a black hole. As a result, the "substance" tries to rise to the surface of the collapsar, due to which the processes of formation of new celestial bodies are involuntarily activated.

The discovery of this phenomenon allowed scientists to refute the stereotype that all black holes feed clouds of hot gas, in other words, they devour stars and other space objects.
