In March 1924, construction began on a Waverly Hills sanatorium for tuberculosis patients in Louisville, Kentucky, and in October 1926 the facility was opened to patients.
By the mid-1950s, tuberculosis was virtually eradicated in the Louisville area, and in 1961 the Waverly Hills Sanatorium closed its doors.
It is rumored that Satanic rituals and sacrifices took place within the walls of Waverly, so today this ominous place is literally inundated with ghosts. Where exactly do the most famous ghosts of the sanatorium live? Let's figure it out!
The main entrance
Eyewitnesses claim that a frightening ghost of an old woman often appears near the front door. Her arms and legs are in chains, and spectral blood drips from her wrists and ankles. The old woman cries out for help and stretches out her hands to those who are nearby.

On the third floor of the sanatorium, many saw a little girl who was nicknamed "Mary". She plays peacefully with a ball, jumps up the stairs and sometimes looks out of the window at curious visitors. Mary wants someone to play with her, and she also has no eyes.
Room 502
The Nurse Station is perhaps the most famous and intimidating room of them all. Those who entered this part of the hospital claim to have seen spectral images floating in the windows and heard disembodied voices say, "Get out!"
The story goes that in 1928 the head nurse was found dead in a room. She hanged herself on the chandelier because of the betrayal of her lover. Rumor has it that the 29-year-old was pregnant when she decided to take her own life.
In 1932, another nurse committed suicide in this ominous room. A desperate woman jumped from a window and crashed.
In addition to voices being heard on this floor, witnesses saw the clear figure of a female nurse in a white coat and reported that room 502 evoked a “disturbing” sense of deep despair.
Roof
Some visitors to the sanatorium claim to have heard children singing on the roof. It would seem, what should children do on the roof? Everything is simple here, during the operation of the hospital, children were taken upstairs for heliotherapy.
Cafeteria and Kitchen
A ghostly man in a white coat and pants allegedly wanders the area. No one knows who he is, but some think he is an old Waverly worker who contracted tuberculosis and died. Also, the characteristic smell of food is often heard from the kitchen, although no one has cooked there since 1982.
Fourth floor
Some consider the fourth floor to be the most terrifying and “active” area of the hospital. There have been many reports of ghostly shadow-like people walking through the halls. In addition, doors often slam for no apparent reason on this floor.
