Chelyakovitsky cemetery, accidentally discovered near the town of Chelyakovitsy in 1994, is considered the only "vampire cemetery". The strange burial dates back to the X-XI centuries.

In 11 pits, the remains of 13 people were found tied with antique leather belts. The right side of the ribcage of each skeleton was pierced with an aspen stake. There is no doubt that the stake must have struck the heart. But in the opinion of the "executioners" this was not enough. Some of the dead had their hands and heads cut off.

According to pagan beliefs and rituals, they did this with vampires and ghouls who rise from their graves at night and drink human blood. People believed that a pierced heart and severed limbs put an end to the bloody feast of the rebellious dead.

Studies have shown that the buried bones belong to local residents - exclusively men of about the same age. But what have the scientists faced? Mass insanity of superstitious people or an unknown epidemic of vampirism sweeping the local inhabitants? Or maybe in search of easy prey, real vampires wandered into the village, who were caught in atrocities and were brutally executed?

Unfortunately, the historical chronicles did not bring these events to us. The mystery of the Chelyakovitsky cemetery still remains unsolved.
