The sculpture "Kiss of Death Statue" is located in the old Catalan cemetery Poblenou in Barcelona. It is located in one of the far corners of the cemetery, as if someone wanted to hide it from prying eyes.
In 1930, the Llaudet family mourned the loss of their son and soon after the funeral such an original tombstone appeared on the grave. On the sculpture, death in the form of a winged skeleton kisses a young man on the forehead. The creator of this dark masterpiece remains unknown, which adds even more mystery to Kiss of Death.
The epitaph on the grave is the lines of the great poet and priest Verdaguer Jacint, who was later called a heretic and was defrocked for his mystical poems. Original and translation of the epitaph:
“And his young heart can not help;
In his veins the blood stops and freezes
And encouragement lost faith embraces
Promotional video:
Fall feeling the kiss of death."
His young heart won't beat anymore;
The blood stopped and froze in my veins, And without the support of lost faith, embrace
Opens the fall, feeling the kiss of death."
The sculpture evokes ambiguous feelings: between horror and admiration, there is an invisible string of questions about the eternal. They say that it was she who inspired the filmmaker Ernst Ingmar Bergman to create the painting "The Seventh Seal" - about the communication of the Knight and Death.
