“One of my relatives has worked in forensic medicine for 20 years. When I was little, I asked her: "Aren't you afraid to work with the dead?" She always answered me that one should be afraid of the living, not the dead. But there was one time when she was confused.
It was at the beginning of July 1990. Brought to them for the autopsy of the child and a half months The mother was a village woman, she often ran to the cattle and to the garden, and the child, apparently, moved and slipped off the pillow, and the cap tied around his neck was pulled tight.
When she arrived, the child's face was already blue, he showed no signs of life. They called an ambulance - it took a long time to get from the city to the village. They could not do anything, they declared death.
At the same time, we had a son drowned on the Volga. The whole city was on the ears, looking for it for several days, could not find it. My father went to the beach every day and sat there for hours. And then one day he sits, looks into the water, and right in front of him the son surfaced. They got it and brought it to the autopsy, and the day was a day off.
The drowned man is already swollen all over, it smells, the meat is falling off, well, this bump called the head physician to open it today and bury it in the morning. While my relative and the doctor were found, while they were brought to work, it was getting dark. They paid them so that after the autopsy, the body was processed, washed, the things were left to be immediately changed.

The night is already in the yard, but the money has been paid and the authorities cannot be refused. Suddenly I hear a child crying from the next room. I look at the doctor with one eye, he has no reaction. Well, I think it seemed.

After a while, crying again - already louder, the doctor raises his head and looks at me, I look at him. Without saying a word, we step into the next room, open the refrigerator. This one and a half month old baby lies with open eyes and open mouth.
It was scary, but they took him out and examined him - he was dead, no lethargic sleep. They closed their eyes and put them back in the refrigerator. We went on to finish the autopsy. After a while, the baby cries again, and louder and louder. We were very scared, changed our clothes and left there. We decided to come early in the morning, to finish the autopsy.
I was afraid to go home alone, and the doctor accompanied me to the apartment. At five in the morning they came to work, put on dressing gowns, oilcloth aprons, sheets on their heads - and immediately to the refrigerator. We open it, and there this child again lies with open eyes. They dragged it out, examined it again - no, he's been dead for more than a day …
Then, when the autopsy was finished, the doctor said that there are cases in practice when the deceased have reflex reactions - squeezing and unclenching the limbs, eyelids, and so on. I put everything on the shelves in a scientific way.
