In at least 6 fragments of the genome, humans and chimpanzees have the same combination of genetic variants.
In another 119 fragments, the coincidences were quite serious, but not so obvious. This conclusion was made by the joint efforts of scientists from the University of Chicago, Oxford, the Center for Biomedical Research of Primates in Holland and the University of San Francisco.
The researchers compared the decoding of the genetic information of 10 chimpanzees from West Africa and 59 inhabitants of the sub-Saharan regions of this continent, provided by the 1000 Genomes project.
Using a computer, scientists sorted fragments of human and chimpanzee genetic material into groups based on how similar they were. In almost all of the material, for every human fragment there was a similar material from the chimpanzee genome, which was expected.

But in several fragments of the genomes there was such a significant coincidence that in their composition some inhabitants of the sub-Saharan region were closer to chimpanzees than to other people, writes "The Saens Daily".
Fragments of the genome, in which such serious coincidences were found, are "responsible" for the body's resistance to infectious diseases. Such a long, for several million years, preservation of the mutation in the genomes of both humans and chimpanzees speaks both of its importance in the survival of both species and indicates the existence of a common ancestor between them.
