London is under threat of severe flooding due to global warming. This is stated in the report of the organization "Christian Aid".
As the report notes, sea levels could rise by 40 centimeters or more if global warming rises more than 1.5 degrees above pre-industrial levels. According to experts, due to such climate changes, problems that already exist in a number of large cities, in particular, soil subsidence and poor planning, will only get worse.
So, the document says, now the authorities of the capital of Great Britain are forced to increasingly resort to using the Thames Barrier - the main protection of the city from floods. If in 1984, when the dam was just built, it was planned to use it no more than three times a year, by now it is used about six to seven times a year.
In addition, according to experts, flooding could threaten Houston, Shanghai, Bangkok, Jakarta, Manila, Lagos and Dhaka.
Earlier in October, Chinese scientists identified regions of the planet that are most vulnerable to droughts caused by moderate increases in global average temperatures. According to their forecasts, if the permissible limits are exceeded, access to water will decrease throughout the Earth.
