In the Brazilian city of Itajuipi, state of Bahia, a man was found who could have been born in 1900. If the age of the centenarian can be confirmed, he will be recognized as the oldest person in the world, according to the Daily Mail.
According to the birth certificate, Jose Ferreira dos Santos was born on November 9, 1900 in the village of Barracan, where the city of Rio Real is now located. Thus, he is two years older than 115-year-old Kane Tanaka from Japan, who is considered the oldest inhabitant of the planet.
Due to age, it is difficult for a centenarian to stay on his feet and walk. He sits or lies most of the time. Before retiring, Santos worked on a farm for 58 years.
In 1940, he married 20-year-old Lindaura Rocha de Jesus. The girl was 20 years younger than him and married without parental permission. “Mom was very angry with him,” recalls Lindaura, now 98 years old.
The long-liver was discovered by a blogger who accidentally heard his story. Now he is trying to collect documents that must be submitted to the Guinness Book of Records to officially confirm the date of birth of Santos.
In 2013, the death of 116-year-old Japanese man Jiroemon Kimura, who was born in 1897, was reported. He was listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the oldest person in the world and the oldest who ever lived on Earth.
