A team of ocean explorers examining the seabed off the coast of California, at a depth of 900 meters, saw a truly amazing squid that boasts huge eyes (see video below).
Scientists aboard the research vessel Nautilus were thrilled when their cameras first spotted a creature so reminiscent of a cartoon character. The researchers had a lot of fun looking at the strange coloration of the squid, noting that it looks like a plush toy dropped into the ocean by a child.
At first, scientists suggested that it was a cuttlefish, but further research showed that the animal is a species of short squid Rossia pacifica.
This squid species has a remarkable ability to completely burrow itself in the sand in order to disguise itself. After that, it turns out to be practically invisible to shrimps and small fish swimming by. On the surface, only the huge eyes of the squid remain, which observe potential prey.
This unique creature, found by the Nautilus researchers, is another natural wonder. Last month, they saw an unusual purple clam.
It is worth noting that in comparison with the amazing animals that live in the ocean waters of the Earth, the aliens, if they certainly appear, certainly will not be able to look so impressive, since it is difficult to surpass a small squid with such adorable eyes.
