Once, on duty, I was talking with an interesting person. Now Konstantin Semyonovich runs a company trading with Latin America, and earlier, in the 90s, he led such a lifestyle that he could well become the hero of an adventure novel.
The fact is that my interlocutor left his native poverty for Brazil, where, however, he did not succeed. And so he, changing one job for another, sunk to the point that he began to wash gold in the jungle together with the same desperate guys like himself. They managed to find a truly golden (literally) place in the remote tributaries of the Amazon.
An Indian shaman came to the prospectors and convinced them that the place was dangerous and it would be better to leave it - nearby, according to the shaman, there was a magic tree planted by the gods of the underworld, and next to this tree indulging your greed was a suicidal undertaking.
Of course, the shaman was not listened to. And then much less pleasant guests appeared - the cocaine bandits decided to lay their paws on gold as well. Konstantin was awakened by the shots, realized what had happened, and rushed to run under automatic fire. He, as it turned out later, was the only one of the prospectors who survived.
It was important for the bandits to remove all the witnesses, and Constantine was pursued, letting the dogs on his trail. The unfortunate man felt that he could no longer run - a bullet scratched his side, and although the wound was insignificant, blood was flowing, and the fugitive was quickly losing strength. Konstantin sank to the ground under a tree and got ready to die - he had already heard the bandits pushing through the forest. A minute later, three armed assassins emerged from the thicket. They could have shot Konstantin right away, but they were in no hurry.
The unfortunate prospector raised his head to take one last look at the sky, and saw something incredible - the branches of the tree under which he was, began to move. These branches were covered with strange red leaves, shaped like the silhouette of the hands, and on them hung fruits that remarkably resembled human heads.
The branches, like snakes, rushed to the ground and in the blink of an eye entwined the bandits. After a few minutes, the screams of the gangsters died down, and after half an hour the branches straightened, leaving only the bones of three skeletons on the ground.

Constantine was able to dress the wound and get to human habitation - in Brazil he worked for several more years and succeeded, but he no longer meddled in the jungle.
